I just wanted to point out that you were being cordial with everyone, even the men. It helps to have well-rounded social proof in all situations. In the case of this bar that you were at, all the employees likely talk to each other and it would be painfully obvious that you walked in just to chat up the women that work there.
[β]CactusinPajamas 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have the same feeling. I worked at a bar and every guy alone I saw there at the bar talking to women.. one goal on his mind, not attractive ...

Job well done.

Please please please stop thinking of yourself as some compliment deprived guy. There is absolutely no advantage to you viewing yourself as a perpetual victim.

Only validation you need is from yourself.
[β]jackzander 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That entirely depends on whether your goals are social or anti-social.
Focusing on yourself is a good skill, if you need to learn it. But it's a crutch for the wounded, not a place you should aspire to stay.
[β]CocoBabeNYC 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Start by ditching the self pitying attitude.
[β]Savaaage 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm surprised when I get a compliment lol I totally don't expect them.
[β]NineteenAD9 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is how you do it. You went out to be social and you weren't outcome dependent on anything else. You acted on conversations and interactions naturally without overthinking it.
It's a great approach, especially for people reading your post who are struggling hard with social/approach anxiety.
The more you do things like this, the easier it is to talk to anyone in any situation. Being social is the core part of it all.

Bro I can relate to this, I've been doing the exact thing ever since I moved to a foreign country of which I do not speak the local language. U know some people are like naah why you goin to the bar alone thats too depressing and I'm like naah man thats too shallow. Keep it up broπ
[β]xonbuhg 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Iβve never done it, I have anxiety even thinking of going lol , where do you find a place to sit, if thereβs no one around what do you do? Play with your phone? Are you planning to walk up to other women next time you go? What do you say to chat with a random guy?
[β]Red5drifter 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Let me start by saying, I've been going to bars alone for years and it's a Fantastic Voyage.
I love to dance (Many people don't believe that I come there just to dance 90% of the time) it's a very stress relieving activity that tends to lead me into surprising situations. A typical night for me his to show up, greet the staff, get a drink that's going to last me for the night, and then I find spot just off to the side of the dance floor. A location that I stand around and enjoy those that might already be out on the floor or using it as time to warm up. I look to see if there are any regulars, feel out the Vibes of potential people that might be interesting to chat with. I've taken time to learn those instructional dances that tell you how to do them (Cha-Cha, Cupid etc) as they get a lot of people on the dance floor and I will start it off if no one is on there as I know someone will follow. Most times it is the women that come out right away.
I'll say that I've had a lot of success in my earlier years meeting a lot of women just dancing, you'd be surprised the amount of women that come there with someone that does not want to dance and the next thing you know they are out there dancing near you.
At the end of the day you have a good time and possibly meet somebody new that might validate you to others for possible later experiences. When it comes to the guys, it's 50/50, some will sit and either laugh, make fun of me, all-the-while never leaving their seats, but others have given me fist bumps, complements or even bought me a drink. Please note, I'm not some incredible dancer, I do enjoy battling others for fun BUT I also learned salsa and swing. Salsa is soo versatile, it's subtle, as it gives you an opening to interact with ladies and demonstrates your confidence in leading her around the dance floor.
Oddly enough, since 2018, my favorite place to go closed down and I had to find somewhere new. At my old place, I have no problems meeting women, friends, potential gf, coffee date etc. Back then, all I was doing was office work and dancing on the weekends. Now I'm a little bit older, work out 6 days , watch what I eat, started my own business, and the women don't seem to be as interested as they once were. I'm very perplexed. When it comes to me personally it seems like my dancing at these places aren't helping me like it used to.
TLDR, go out, live in the moment, don't just BE there be PRESENT.

Dude I get it but youβre an outlier when it comes to confidence like damn son you sure have some.
[β]ProductivityMonster 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
I find many women leave you alone when they find they can't take advantage of you. Like when you don't tolerate their bullshit and give off very confident vibes you scare away the users, which unfortunately is many of the women (although obviously it's a good thing). In some cases, becoming more successful and confident can actually have the opposite effect in terms of attracting women.

- How to be a better version of yesterdays self.
-Put my success and failures out here in hopes they help someone.
-Get another mans perspective on moments I've never been in so I can handle them correctly.
- Give a fellow man positive reinforcement and a shoulder as I don't have that in my life.

I seriously want to be like you, get out of this shitty loneliness. I gotta put some effort to get out of this shithole man.

I use to go out by myself but prefer going with at least one friend.
[β]GEEZUS_956 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Simply curious. It appears you start the contact with all these people. How did you?
[β]sneakypedia 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
>He was having a tough night and my compliment seemed to have made him a bit happier.
this is the key.
Going out, showing up, being there and sharing the space with people. You can make a difference. You being there can make other people have more fun :)
And I think.. they see that you're going for it, learning, growing. And it opens doors for them too. You can be an inspiration.

[β]sneakypedia 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
right? You're not coming from a place of neediness, but an understanding that you have something to give too. and you don't have to go looking for what that is. You are enough. You are already a valuable phenomenon in the world. And the people who are your friends will recognise that value - when you bring to bear the courage to share yourself with the world
[β]sneakypedia 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
thanks.
your comment led me to re-read this and.. it landed again. i feel that i really need to remind myself of this more often. I could do with integrating this understanding, it would relieve my anxiety. also in other areas.
[β]WagerGoat 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Tbh if she gave you her number then she expects you to use it, my experience if a taken girl gave me her number then she obviously know Iβm not looking to be just friends. But if hookups isnβt what you trying to do with her then a job well done

Ahh I would say she playing games but at the same time she does have a bf so she probably thinking about that. But usually I would call right then and there to confirm then hit her up later. But hopefully it all works out for you bro

Tbh loyal girls not giving a guy her number so the fact she was entertaining it kind of tells you, but yea all I can say is see if she replies, if not I wouldnβt sweat it or anything. Just see this as a stepping stone for you to get more numbers whenever you approach a girl you find attractive
[β]Reaver_ 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But it was a nice chat, I got to know another humam being and also got to practice my game.
If there's one thing yall need to take away from this post, it's this attitude right here. Outcome independence. Getting a number or getting laid doesn't dictate success, it's being able to walk away from any interaction with something positive. This is honestly one of, if not the biggest things holding most of yall back.
You get so fixated on this idea in your head of closing as the only goal or only measure of success, and it takes you out of reality and the moment, and girls (or anyone really) will easily pick up on it. Don't hyper focus on doing or saying the right thing and just worry about being your most authentic self, being genuine in conversation, and having a fun interaction for the sake of fun and getting experience.
[β]Boos_TZ_ 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
As someone who has completed a 30+ day challenge, youβll have nights like these, and thatβs great. Everything you mentioned is a W because you pushed yourself through discomfort to become better. That builds confidence which will help you in the long run. Your frame (mentality) is right on the mark. Warmup sets always help, no matter the gender. Keep it up.

What would be interesting is a guide on going to the bar alone to meet people and NOT drinking (maybe just eating tacos). Bar food is really unhealthy much less drinking and I'd rather not sacrifice health for socialization.
[β]megamorphg 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I guess I'm self-conscious. Especially one of the ways to build rapport with someone is cheering someone... who is drinking alcohol... while I'm drinking water. I guess it's an illusion because there have been times in the past I and others have cheered me with completely different things than alcohol. And also that nobody cares that much anyway.
[β]bestmenrmenatbest 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You donβt have to drink alcohol. Just get a ginger ale or red bull or something.
[β]megamorphg 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I don't drink any of those things, especially more than a tiny sip.
[β]bestmenrmenatbest 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you are not willing to try something then there is nothing more. Just stay at home then
[β]bestmenrmenatbest 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I go alone to bars 90% of the time. I have never felt any kind of way about it. Honestly, i go there for music or to get a drink and also because Iβm an attention whore I love rejecting women. Who really do you have to impress? I wouldnβt marry a woman from a bar so who cares really what they think
[β]Tavarshio 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
He even wanted to pay for my drink when he was leaving.
Never accept a drink from a stranger or let someone pay for your drink! Even if you're a guy. Also, it seems strange to compliment male strangers in a place like that unless you guys know one another. Sounds like you had a good time otherwise. Also, as others have said, stop fishing for compliments or thinking of yourself as "deprived" of them. Thinking of yourself as a victim and expressing that mentality will get you NOWHERE as a straight man.
I personally find that going alone to bars ain't that much fun. That's why I almost never do it. The only time I would is if I were a regular and people knew me there.
[β]cinephiller 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Its kind off weird to say but flirt practicing with waitresses and people from bar is best teacher. I did similarly ( in a social setup in a bar) and got rejected twice. But nonetheless it was a learnings experience and worth implementing.
