Posts about a specific person or situation belong in AskSeddit so this post had to be taken down. Don't sweat it, just read the rules next time before you post or comment. I'll also add some feedback, for what it's worth.
1
My ex.....
You left out how it ended and that's relevant to getting a read on the situation. Similar to when you go into the doctor he needs your medical history for proper context because what happened before influences what happened after.
So can you elaborate:
How did it end with this ex?
Who ended it, and what were their stated reasons why?
Did you see it coming? In retrospect after the fact, did you see red flags or signs that was going wrong?
How did it end up that you weren't talking for a couple months? Like how did the last interaction before that go?
2
..... she adds me on Snapchat and posts to her story, definitely trying to get a reaction out of me.
There's a whole lot that you're leaving out here:
Did she message you when she added you?
What exactly did she post? Pictures, captions/text, etc?
Did she @ you in the post?
3
She then snaps me 20 mins later but deletes it before I can even open it. I don’t respond.
She then snaps me 20 mins later but deletes it before I can even open it.
I don’t respond.
Weird. Did you even read the preview of that message? Did you actually get to see any of the text that was in the message?
4
She then unfriends me the following day.
Sounds weird. Whatever the case may be, this doesn't sound like someone worth fussing about, or even posting about, to be honest.
5
Normally I chase her when she does shit like this but I didn’t give her a reaction at all. I tried my best to play it cool and be indifferent.
One potential issue at this point in time, is that it's so soon after the breakup that it sounds like it's still a fair amount of effort to assert yourself and your own boundaries.
Like you have to deliberately play# it cool, as opposed to if you were fully recovered, you wouldn't have to play, you would just *be cool about it.
The point simply being that you are right to be wary at this point. You're probably still recovering.
6
I felt pretty good that I didn’t take the bait but I’m wondering if I should have called her out on the game or nah? I don’t want to put effort in unless she does.
I'm assuming that she broke up with you?
That's the literal inverse of putting effort into it. She has only reaffirmed this by unfriending you on social media.
I also assume that you've been reading up on game. It can seem as if game does more than it actually can.
Seduction is a team sport. And if the other person is not wanting to play with you or in general is a dysfunctional jackass, seduction doesn't fix them.
If the other person is into it, then they will make it easy. They will work with you to make something happen. Breaking up with you and unfriending you on social media is the opposite of that.

Like you said yourself, her main objective is to get a reaction out of you and you did the right thing by not entertaining any of it. A lot of time this type of behavior can come from deeply rooted insecurities and a need for validation. She may have felt rejected or unwanted in her day to day life, and you are her reliable source of immediate and constant validation. If there are unresolved thoughts and emotions and she does eventually want to have a mature conversation, she should be more upfront and sincere. In the meantime, the best thing you could do is focus on yourself and continue doing what you’re doing and not falling victim to her traps.
[–]Professional-Soup525 50 points51 points52 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thanks bro. Yeah she’s immature but so was I during the relationship
[–]Independent_Gur_9189 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And that’s completely okay. It’s not about winners or losers or who was more or less mature. You had your good times and your bad time but if it didn’t work out, it didn’t work out for a reason. We live and we learn. Experience is one of those things where you take the test first and then the lesson after. If you don’t take the time to really understand what you learned from this, you will go through the pain again and again until you really get it (speaking from personal experience)
[–]Devolution20 62 points63 points64 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
She's from the past...she's playing stupid mind games on SNAPCHAT.
Go find you a woman.
[–]Professional-Soup525 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
She’s 25 and plays these games. Kinda weird lol
[–]Devolution20 35 points36 points37 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
Dude, their are 40/50 year old men and women who continue to play games with others and there own emotions lol. Some people don't learn how to interact efficiently. You did the right thing. Let it fizzle put completely.
[–]Professional-Soup525 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
Would that show her I took back the power and control by not giving in anymore?
[–]HEAVY_METAL_SOCKS 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Don't try to show her shit. Do this for yourself and no one else, forget about what she thinks and move on.
[–]ShawnSimoes 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You can't take back the power by being obsessed with "showing her" you've taken back the power. You take back the power by actually not caring about her bullshit anymore.
[–]Professional-Soup525 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I understand. I’m just proud that for once I didn’t give in. And I wanted to make sure that was the right move as I didn’t want her thinking I was giving in once more.
[–]Devolution20 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. Your in control of your life. No one else.
[–]Godmotherrrr 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I'm curious is the shit test phase in relationships a necessary evil? I see relationships on movies or TV shows play out effortlessly and flawlessly (even the more realistic ones)
Do men and women do this to check if their partner is high value or something along those lines?
[–]Spore2012 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Theres women who dont shit test, theres women who do it constantly after a year. Im dating one.
[–][deleted] 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
[permanently deleted]
[–]tehdox 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Google it!
[–]Devolution20 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No it's not. Imo if she continues to "shit test" you then she either doesn't full trust you for some reason (could be a problem of hers...could be you... communicate.) Or she psycho.
[–]Devolution20 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Normally it should go like the movies....just not as dramatic. That's how you know you "click". You just get each other....no need for any kind of testing.
[–]daysinnroom203 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Listen, you’re a professional now, so you need to move on. That is such a classic high school Move though.
[–]Professional-Soup525 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Definitely immature. Almost shocking at her age
[–]dukegratiano15 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is why men are losing. We have analysis threads on Reddit constantly about things like that. If she’s your ex - keep her in the EX zone and stop mentally masturbating about some fucking child that plays games with you. Like someone said earlier “go find yourself a woman”
[–]Tall_Anywhere3705 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes you handled it good 👍🏼
[–]jimmyhalpert2 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
This comment section is a mess. Look, you did well but it does sound like you still have feelings for her. She’s an ex. Forgot about it and move on. No need to call her out. You’re already thinking about messaging her, you’re playing her game. Move on and find someone else
Edit: I realized its only been 2 months so I understand if you have feelings still but trust me, don’t play the game
[–]Professional-Soup525 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I’m just confused why she would take the effort to test me after 2 months. Seems rather dramatic and pointless
[–]jimmyhalpert2 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
She wants attention. She wants to see if she can still get you back and if you take the bait, she’ll leave again. Girls are weird man
[–]Professional-Soup525 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No kidding. If she wants to talk why can’t she hit me up like an adult? Early on in the relationship she had avoidant tendencies. Didn’t want to communicate when something came up. So who knows man chicks are weird
[–]Moikepdx 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You can look at this from the perspective of psychology. First, look at Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs:
https://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow-needs2.webp
Once a person is comfortable with one level of the pyramid, they start trying to move to the next.
In this instance, your ex is working on her psychological needs, including both "Belonging and Love" and "Esteem Needs". She knows that you have been able to provide both in the past, and she is seeking validation again.
The irony is that she is likely seeking that validation and stability so that she can move on to "Self-fulfillment" with someone else. As long as you are willing to take her back, you function a safe "home base" from which she can explore other options.
But a security blanket is no good if it's not there when she needs it. When you didn't respond, she immediately needed to look elsewhere, or even worse, go back to a prior step on the hierarchy.
You can "be a nice guy", and she will continue to treat you as "home base". Heck, she might even decide to settle with you if she explores all her other options and decides none of them will work out. But she isn't prioritizing you or seeing you as the "goal".
The action you took is polarizing. It forces her to either quit using you as home base or to make you the goal rather than the safety option. If she decides to come back and you decide you still want her, at least make her earn it.
Thanks. That’s what I’m thinking and wanted to relay to her with my actions.
[–]Interfecto 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
There’s only one correct answer here: it doesn’t matter.
[–]Professional-Soup525 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I’m trying to understand female behavior as this tends to happen quite often. Most agree that she was looking for a reaction or a boost in ego. I didn’t give her shit and you’re right, it doesn’t matter. She looks stupid now for trying that
[–]Interfecto 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And at a fundamental and psychological level, everyone is right, she’s likely seeking a reaction or trying to assuage her ego. Unfortunately this detailed analysis of intention by guys, more often than not, works against us. It gets us thinking about a girl we may have forgotten, and generates an emotional reaction. Both of which, at least for an ex, are something she wants, and we don’t.
I’m all for understanding human motivations, but you have to pick your battles. It would be better to dive into a conversation about a date you just had, and analyze whether you should ask her for a second date, try to hook up, etc etc, rather than trying to understand the intentions of someone who is toxic, and isn’t a good match for you.
Sorry for the long winded response. Just had a cup of coffee and I’m ready to rock 😎
[–]ORIONFULL23 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Its just a test, and you did it well, she did that to test if she got some power over you. Good for you
If she wants to come back to you, she needs to do the effort
[–]Dastan72 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You did better than your past-self. Don't put effort its just useless she's just want some attention and you know it.
[–]Jamesdoink 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
👍
[–]ProdiLemaj 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Handled it perfectly, she sounds like a very toxic and immature individual, you’re better off without her my guy
[–]neversleeps212 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
You passed the shit test. Don’t let her keep living rent free in your head. If she had something tangible to say, she would have said it. She just wanted attention.
[–]Professional-Soup525 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Why bother testing me if she doesn’t have interest? It’s almost a cry for attention
[–]YoungStarchild 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
She’s probably a narc. She just wants you to feel Like you’re missing out . She doesn’t care for you though she just likes how she holds power over you. Run away.
[–]Professional-Soup525 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
She doesn’t have any power over me. I think I made her look stupid when I ignored her and she went and deleted me out of spite. Or so I will reach out idk
[–]YoungStarchild 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It’s a toxic relationship nonetheless. Someone here has major issues and needs professional help.
Well I’m in therapy for my anxiety and attachment issues but she has deep issues I suspect as well. I think she has borderline honestly. I actually feel for her in that regard but I don’t excuse the behavior. I know she likes to drink and I sense that she’s hurting from something too. Anyways I’m not here to rescue her but it’s hard when I’m highly empathic and I notice this shit
[–]YoungStarchild 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Feel for you bro. Wishing you luck.
[–]neversleeps212 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You’re framing it wrong. Her interest is not in you as a person or even necessarily as a romantic/sexual partner. Her interest is in her own validation. Maybe she’s lonely or feeling a little insecure. But whatever the situation is, it’s about her not you, know what I mean?
She’s likely experiencing some negative emotion and based on the fact that she as your put it “dominated in the relationship” she likely thinks she can compel whatever response she wants.
As for her interest, if she didn’t bother to actually make it known in a clear way, then she’s not actually interested mate. She just wants you to chase.
[–]Professional-Soup525 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup and she looks stupid for trying that. Maybe she will actually respect me now. And she definitely has self esteem issues
[–]blahblahblah_yeayea 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
IMO, if you are still toying with the idea of getting back with her, then you are also "playing these games". Make up your mind that you are either DONE with her, or you're not... If you're done, then block her on everything, and don't even consider reacting to any future attempts. There's no reason to allow her messages to come through unless you're strategizing for "your next move".
[–]Professional-Soup525 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I’m willing to meet her halfway if she cleans up her act. Like I said I did things that were immature and disrespectful to her as well. We got along great before I changed into a needy individual
[–]blahblahblah_yeayea 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
How mature and un-needy is it of you to be giving her the silent treatment until you decide she's ready for another chance? You're playing games.
[–]Professional-Soup525 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’m not giving her the silent treatment. She cut me off so I left her alone like a mature adult. If she actually gave me something to respond to I would have considered it. I have attachment issues I’m working in therapy among other things. I recognize my own behaviors helped steer this off course so I’m keeping an open mind
[–]quantumactual 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Correct, you handled it correctly. Don’t give her a reaction, she wants to see that you care still.
[–]Professional-Soup525 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Does this raise attraction for her? I normally chase her
[–]quantumactual 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It will definitely contribute.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. When you withdrawal, she starts to think and wonder about you, which raises her attraction.
If her attraction is too low, she won’t bother. But seeing that she’s doing the social media bullshit tells me she still cares and thinks about you.
If she calls you, then it’s okay to talk to her. Otherwise, don’t. And when she reaches out, assume she wants to see you.
[–]Professional-Soup525 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yup thanks. I read corey Wayne’s book and I’m starting to understand women and attraction
[–]quantumactual 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nice, I kinda figured you’d ran into Corey Wayne by you talking about raising her attraction. It’s truly great material, it has made me wildly successful with women in general. It will put you miles ahead of your competition, just take it seriously and read the book multiple times. Also check out his YouTube channel.
[–]Snoo36988 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
WEll handled! Don’t say a word, leave her alone. All good!
[–]aerial_coitus 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
run far away from that shit. far more drama than any sane person should have to deal with.
[–]JohnnyLazer17 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nope. Just keep it cold bud. You’re doin good.
I’m doing good but I didn’t handle correctly? I thought ignoring her was “cold” and I didn’t want to be petty and show her that she still gets to me. I wanted to show her that I’m strong enough to not to take the bait anymore
[–]JohnnyLazer17 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Correct, you did good by keeping it cold. I was answering nope to the last question you asked in your post.
[–]Impressive-Region-37 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Played it well don't need to call unless your still interested!! Don't play the cat and mouse game
I am still interested but I don’t want to give her my attention until she earns it
[–]mrhodesit 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Relationships are like McDonalds french fries. After they cool off, and you try to reheat, they are disgusting and frankly not worth eating.
Haha guess it depends on the people involved. Could be like left over pizza as well, still tastes good the next day.
[–]Dwaynedibley24601 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
handled well, no contact she is toxic
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Cellphones and social media in general are the death of real connections. It's to easy for things to get lost in translation, then open for interpretation. If you both generally love each other.. put the cell down, go over there and form a human bond. If that fails without social media then you really know.
Agreed. My own anxiety caused problems no doubt
[–]socozyinhere 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Just leave her with her vibrator and cats/dogs.
She just bought a cat actually
[–]kettlebell_workout 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link
Dude... You have still long way to go.
[–]Professional-Soup525 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link
What should I have done? I was laughing when she tried this on me. Should I have joked around with her? I don’t want to contact her because I will once again be pursuing
[–]sponge-sphincter 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
You should have blocked her so she never got the chance to do this
[–]Professional-Soup525 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link
That shows her I care. If she does this behavior again I’ll just confront her and proceed from there
[–]sponge-sphincter 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
But if you confront her then you're wasting your time on her. Idk, you know her better than I do but with women acting like that , they generally want validation or a quick ego boost. I say even negative attention is still attention. If I was you I'd block
[–]Professional-Soup525 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Blocking her shows her that I’m bothered by her behavior. I would rather be indifferent I guess. Like I’m not fazed etc
[–]sponge-sphincter 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I don't agree but if you wanna engage the clown then do as you wish. I'd rather have boundaries and be rid of the bullshit
[–]Professional-Soup525 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I thought by ignoring her I was setting boundaries? When she added me on snap I was open to contact if she had a new attitude. I didn’t engage her when she pulled those tests on me
[–]sponge-sphincter 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Yeah that's great. Blocking her would assure that you aren't tempted to engage is all. Don't know why you'd be open to giving the person a second chance though to see if they've changed?
[–]Professional-Soup525 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Because I played a large role in the loss of attraction as well. She was submissive to me in the beginning when I was on my purpose and in my masculine frame. I guess I am open to another chance because I made mistakes as well
[–]LeavingituptoBeaver 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I’am curious about that statement? If a relationship ends… why is it necessary to block anyone unless there is abuse? You describe something that I’ve never considered as an emotion…. to block someone because you have “feelings for them” Would you elaborate? I frankly think leaving a door open is always better. Just me.
I didn’t block her. In fact she blocked me on the phone and that is why I have been in no contact. I was chasing her and wouldn’t leave her alone. That’s why I’m confused she attempted contact on Snapchat.
[–]LeavingituptoBeaver 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She missed the chase… just a guess… women are all different.. she’s still young and may not know herself yet. Been there myself. Follow your heart and guard it while you are at it!
[–]damqnaz 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Naah man if you are done for real dont ever ever text her no matter what but that is only.if you are shure you are done bro be careful what you wish for because you might get it
I’m not contacting her at all. If she reaches out then maybe things could change but I value myself too much to chase her anymore
[–]flennboyd 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She’s going through her contact list for a reaction from guys in the past. I’m not sure to suggest spending any more time. If you were the founder of a startup, none of this would even be on your plate of things to worry about.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I guess YOU missed the part where she's your EX....
LOL
[–]Mysterious_Noob555 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
No offence to u/Professional-Soup525 but u/sponge-sphincter is right bro
[–]quantumactual 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
He’s actually not. Blocking her shows he cares. It shouldn’t matter how he’s seen to her. But yes, best to just leave it be, especially if there’s hope for a relationship in the future.
[–]Mysterious_Noob555 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Women aren’t that difficult to understand . If she wants to be with you, if she cares about u, it doesn’t matters if we guys mess things up a little bit. The person who loves us always try to see the good in us.
[–]quantumactual 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well people break up and get back together all the time. I’m not saying it’s a good or bad thing, but clearly she is still thinking about him given the fact that she’s playing the social media games.
They’ve been in no contact for 2 months as he said. She wouldn’t be doing that if she wasn’t playing with the idea of him in her head.
[–]Mysterious_Noob555 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You’ve got the point. I am not disagreeing with you. But the thing is , she left when she wanted and got him back when she wanted to. Even if he blocks her and still she finds a way to talk to him , it would be a little better. Otherwise who knows this girl will break his heart again. If she can do it once she can do it again.
[–]Mysterious_Noob555 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I would say .... blocking her after she’s doing all this kind of stuff is acceptable. It shows that the other person doesn’t want this kind of behaviour in his life
Well dude, it all depends on what you want.
I’ve turned my ex into a FWB. I could’ve blocked her, but since I wanted to retain some sort of relationship with her, because I enjoy and appreciate her as a person, I didn’t, and it worked out quite well.
To each their own. You wouldn’t be wrong for doing things that way, but I know most guys would want their women back and blocking them is not the way to do that.
[–]Mysterious_Noob555 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I can agree to that
What should I have done? Ignore her friend request? Or block her once I saw what she was doing? I hate being petty and childish so I thought best to just ignore and carry on with my day
[–]Mysterious_Noob555 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I am not saying that u did anything wrong. But the thing is that even if you have blocked her from nearly everywhere. If she really want to get back with you she’ll find a way. If she was so scared about loosing you she would have never put you in a position like this.
[–]Professional-Soup525 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh ok. Yeah she’s not scared of losing me. She assumes that I’ll always be there waiting. Maybe blocking her challenges that assumption. I do want another shot with her but I won’t chase her anymore.
Btw english is not my mother tongue so ..... ignore the grammar
[–]j2bbt238 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
block
[–]ShinbrigGoku 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You good, you literally didn't give her any reaction and just so she can feel like she has some kind of control she unfriended you...if anything she did you a favor.
