Letting go is the key for any relationship from the very beginning to the end. I recommend you checking Einzelgänger's videos on taoism! It really helped me.

First I saw a comment with a proper use and discourse on Stoicism, and now, Taosim. Keep the good people coming in to this sub, this is how some problems are meant to be tackled on as adults

Brooo. Same man. 🥲 she wasn’t even a bad gf. I was going through a lot at the time and I wasn’t in a good spot to be dating her. She was actually one of the best I was able to get along with. God bless my dude

My ex dumped me because of LDR a year ago.
I reached out to her this year, because I wanted to see if we could reconcile.
She gave me the cold shoulder before demanding to know what I wanted.
She proceeded to block me on everything after I told her that I wanted to try to just chat and be friends.
Looks like I was the opposite of you, lol.
[–]ItchyMeaning9 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I’m totally dumbfounded by this thread.
How is blocking people being a man, and why isn’t it acceptable to just behave like normal human beings and just wanting to keep in touch and ask about each other?
I really don’t get it
[–]CanadianTurt1e 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because in the dating world, a man's attention and energy is better utilized on a woman that accepts his attention, rather than someone who is no longer part of his life. A lot of men here have dealt with similar issues. We know WHY she's texting back. It's so damn obvious. She probably got dumped by her current boyfriend, felt lonely, and realized that her ex (the OP) was the better deal all along. Now she wants the attention of a guy she once pushed away.
Honestly, I wouldn't have blocked her (I'd probably just ignore her texts). But in OP's case, it's better for his mental health to completely block this individual. He knew that if he went down this rabbit hole, he'd probably regret it. He doesn't want to have his feelings toyed with. That's absolutely a smart reason why he should block her. He previously had feelings with her. It'd be way too much of a risk to go down that rabbit hole again.
[–]Black_Midnite 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I ask myself that question everyday. I wish my ex would've just chatted with me, given me a chance to reconcile, but she chose to her path.
As for OP, I wonder if it's the notion of her wanting nothing to do with him and then turning around a year later?
Idk, I wouldn't do that but if OP wants that... then I guess good for him
[–]ItchyMeaning9 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But it’s not even about reconciling or keeping the other person as an option, it’s just about having a normal connection with people
This whole blocking thing is almost like ghosting, fear of having the courage of talking to the person again, or being incapable of controlling feelings. I don’t see any value in this and certainly not something worth congratulating someone for
Totally willing to understand if I am missing something and I’d love someone to explain me what that could be
[–]Black_Midnite 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, I completely agree with what your saying.
When my ex blocked me a week ago, I was so heartbroken. Today, I think she did it because she's immature and doesn't know how to handle her feelings or talk it out. We had a great relationship, and a mutual breakup. So, there was no reason to block me.
As for OP, I understand both sides. I get where OP is coming from and where you're coming from.
Their ex reached out after wanting absolutely nothing to do with OP, but I agree with you. OP could've told her how they felt, instead of blocking and coming to reddit.
In short, I think it's a way for OP to come to terms with how they were treated and doing on to her what she did to OP.
Still, I don't think it's a justified reasoning.
If I was in OP's shoes, I would've just told my ex how I felt and moved on. Simple and effective.
[–]dodged_that_one 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well done. It is tough to turn off the tap when you care.
I had a girl who I was only friends with start ghosting me. I didn't notice it at first, but when I did, I realised she was aggressively ghosting me, like walking up stairs to pass where I was on the floor above level ghosting. I still have no idea what led to that level of effort, I didn't think we were close enough for her to care enough to dislike me to that extent, nor can I think of anything I did to earn it.
However, she did keep me on all of the social stuff. I'm not going to lie, I was deeply hurt by her, I thought we were solid friends and I went through a pointless, destructive cycle of trying to work out what I might have done. Cutting her off from my social media was difficult because I did still care, but it was incredibly cathartic. What she had done was passive, to me this was my acknowledging that I was aware of what she had done and I was taking control and ending things. I don't know if that is the message she got, I don't care, it was about me taking action.

I had a friend block me, because I told her she should block he ex that raped her.
[–]TheProMxn 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Goddamn! That’s a whole case of disaster waiting to pop.
[–]TalionTheRanger93 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ya. That's what I tried telling her. She then got really abusive with me, and blocked me. I said something like "your acting like a bitch, and you need to stop." If she doesn't want to block him that's her problem. But don't bring up how you're still in contact with someone who raped you, and then get abusive with the person who says you should block him. It's just so disrespectful.
She does thir regularly, and it's definitely has to be a mental health thing related to the trauma. I can get that way with my own shit. But I learned behaving that way is bad a long time ago. So I can't be to hard on her. But it's a entirely rediculase situation.
[–]PatientAssociation62 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Sounds like had another dude lined up, dumped you when she thought she had it sewn up with him, didn't work out and has either dumped him or is considering it...but first wants to line you up as an option. Or else has regret and wants to keep tabs on you in case she later decides you are a viable option.
We get what we are willing to tolerate. Good on you for demanding better and acting on it. Well done.
[–]Moikepdx 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She might just like humble-brag complaining to her frirnds that all her exes are still obsessed with her.
[–]SebastianPatel 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
lol this is quite a LOT to conclude from such limited information given by the OP. I mean it could also be that they just didn't fit and she wants to see how he is handling the breakup.
[–]PatientAssociation62 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Perhaps I am reaching a bit based off limited info. But the behavior I describe is not at all uncommon among women. I've seen the "option game" time and again. There is always a reason for her initiating contact.
If OP's ex was happy and getting what she wanted with a new BF I doubt she would piss on him if he was in flames, let alone give one scintilla of a shit about how he is handling the breakup. Maybe I'm being cynical but women are the far more "mercenary" sex when it comes to relationships.
[–]SebastianPatel 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
mercenary sex as in do what ever it takes to fulfil their own desires? Women are also kind of indecisive. It kind of depends on how long the relationship was between these two. Was it like 5 years? Or was it 5 months? If it was 5 years, it can totally happen that she fell out of love but still cares to see he is ok. If it was 5 months, then yes it could more as you are describing. Where she hoped to get better, couldn't, got rejected herself, and now wants to come back to this guy to either pick her up as an ego boost or maybe go back to him as option B.
[–]PatientAssociation62 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
"Mercenary" as in they will take full advantage of the fact some guy likes them. Not all, most are decent, but I've seen many who will won't think twice about using some guy and only "care" when it's convenient or their plan didn't work out.
I knew one chick (pretty and outgoing blonde), was an aspiring singer, had a whole "harem" of beta orbiters. They paid for voice lessons, got her auditions, got her a car, helped her pay living expenses, hooked her up with cash jobs, went to her gigs to support her, helped her with travel, etc. I dated her briefly, got friendzoned, moved on from her.
She got married to some guy, had 2 kids with him, got divorced, and then hit me up with a message letting me know she was now a "single mother".
What OP describes is classic "options game" or "mercenary" behavior. I don't do that to women. The only women I know are either friendly acquaintances or ones I'm dating or want to date.
[–]SebastianPatel 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah women will stalk men who they used to deal with on social media. Theyre looking to see if you added value to your life. If you do, they come back with the "Hey big head" texts and all that. You can take them back as plates only but always keep at arms length, and even plating is risky with an ex.

People deal with breakups in different ways. I recently split with my ex of several years because I realized that we were better at being friends than being together. Blocking her wouldn'tve made sense since we enjoy each other's friendship. Contrary to popular believe in some of the "pickup flavored" subs, men & women can actually be friends, but it depends on where both of your heads are at.

It's great that you are overcoming your own personal weaknesses and insecurities, but how does this have anything to do with SEDUCTION- You know, the name of the subreddit? I think there are some subreddits that deal directly with emotional immaturities and emotional insecurities. You might find more comfort there.
[–]simbuah 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
You have to let go of relationships that you are stuck in, in order to attract new relationships into your life.
[–]turdddit -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
So that's the type of advice I can expect to find on a subreddit called Seduction? That's like getting advice on tire pressure for your Toyota Camry on an a subreddit devoted to super cars. Yeah, there are a 100 times more Camry drivers... This subreddit has gone to shit.

If you're coming to a seduction subreddit for advice on seduction you're hopeless. Want to seduce people? Improve yourself and learn to be a supportive nurturing partner who takes care of themselves and doesn't need\want a maid. It's shocking how easy it is.

[–]smarteinstien 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Blocking is a beta move. Keep her on read and move on. Respond after a week, don’t justify late responses.
The best revenge is to show you don’t care and you have moved on.
[–]dodged_that_one 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Either someone is worth your time or they are not. She isn't, so close the door. It is better revenge to show her how great your life is and that she's missing out by not being part of it, but it lowers you to think in those terms and perform for someone who might not even be watching. That is giving them power over you and your actions they don't deserve.
Needing revenge is also weakness. It means you need something from them. The strong move is to move on. If you are weaker and need revenge (I get it, you might need to feel the scales are level before you can get closure), take it and then move on. Keeping a window open in the hope that they will envy your life is an incredibly weak and uncertain kind of revenge.
Best to shut them off and concentrate on living your life. If they are still interested in keeping score, that's their weakness and it will be a question they can't easily answer, let them stew with unanswered questions while you don't think about them at all.
[–]totalwarwiser -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You are wrong.
Being strong is recognizing your part on why it didnt work. The other person may be a cheating lying son of a bitch and 95% responsible why it ended, but you still was 5% responsible. In recognizing that you can work on your flaws, learn and move on. Even if the other person injuried you, try to forgive them and learn by trying to avoid someone similar in the future.
Revenge, denying or blocking someone is done by the weak. The strong endure it, become stronger and keep on living through virtue.
[–]dodged_that_one 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
You have some confusing logic here. If they somehow qualify as remaining in your wider social circle, why would you avoid someone similar in the future? Either that kind of person is someone to avoid, so you should disconnect from them, or they aren't, in which case you shouldn't avoid similar.
What is the benefit to you for keeping them? Keeping a stone in your shoe because you can bear the discomfort isn't strength, it's stupidity. I'm all for forgiving, but I also take out the trash, I won't choose to expose myself to negativity.
We are basically in agreement, that the best thing to do is move on. Only difference is I want to cut my baggage loose.
[–]narwaffles 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]NookSwzy 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Atlatl_Axolotl 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Checking up on your life seems like a reasonable thing to do. Ending a relationship doesn't have to mean you stop caring what happens to that person.
[–]roaphaen 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Fuck that. Are there some humans that can 'just be friends' after? Yeah a few. Men do a lot of terrible violent shit to women, but women rake men's emotions over the fucking coals leaving the door open just enough to keep men pining for years just so they can get a little validation when they are bored. When you break up with someone have the decency to let them move on by leaving a cut, not a tear. That's true compassion. Less entertaining drama though. Glad you did what she wouldn't my brother.
[–]Atlatl_Axolotl -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
9 words for the male abuse, 32 for what you project they are doing to you....rape, violence and murder get 9 words, but being strung along gets 32. Think about that. "bleeding souls become a bitter mind"
[–]roaphaen 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's because I'm commenting on something relevant to HIS situation. It's NOT only a male or female thing - men string women along too, and if she is pining for 2 years over a guy that views her as an option the kindest thing to do is to cut off contact as well. In general though, men beat people up, women use social manipulation. When's the last time a guy was nervous about being called a 'slut'? Can it happen, sure, but generalization are gonna generalize - doesn't mean they are all false and this guy needs SPECIFIC lauding for what he did - hat's off mate - even if she didn't intentionally rake you over the coals (I think she did) you did what had to be done.
[–]WastePurchase 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, I think it's reasonable to assume that they would have moved on after 2 years.
[–]NookSwzy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Depends how the relationship ended and if he's healed up from it. Sometimes both people need to go their separate ways and avoid contact indefinitely.
[–]CanadianTurt1e 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Fuck that shit. A man's attention is one of the most valuable characteristics in the dating world. Why would he use it on a woman that is no longer in his life? Why would he use his valuable attention on a girl that pushed him away and broke his heart? Most men on this subreddit aren't looking for "friends." A lot of us here are done those days of being "friends" with women. We already have enough women friends in our lives. People here are looking to "up" their laycount. That's the whole point of seduction.
[–]Fiat_Justicia 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It sounds like you have a worldview in which relationships are a kind of hostile, zero-sum game or that they are all about self-interest.
If you can't or won't be friends with women because you enjoy their company and without wanting more, you will probably never have a healthy relationship, because they aren't people to you.
[–]CanadianTurt1e 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Where exactly did I say that I can't have friendships with women? Or the idea that I don't view them as people? Why do women come here always talking out of their asses and assuming that we don't view women as people?
My point was that a lot of us here have enough women friends in our lives. We don't need any more of them. It's not that we "view women as less than people," it's just that we're past that point in our lives. Most people here are trying to improve their dating circle, not social circle. We're in our 20s,filled with hormones and testosterone, and we just want to fuck. Our priorities lies in fucking, not getting friend zoned.
If a girl doesn't want to fuck, I'll respect her boundaries and move on. But I'm sure as hell not going to be "friends" with her. I'm not here to be the shoulder to cry on. I got a very interesting/fun personality, and I'm not going to waste that on a girl that just wants to be "friends." If I wanted to spend time with platonic women-friends, I already have a dedicated group of them that I love like sisters. I don't need anymore.
[–]Fiat_Justicia 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I said "can't or won't", and I'm not a woman. Do you apply this same logic that you aren't trying to improve your social circle to men you interact with? Are you past the point of needing any more male friends in your life? Why do you equate being friends with a woman with being a shoulder to cry on?
The fact that you see your personality as a currency to be withheld except in exchange for sex is consistent with my earlier assessment of your worldview.

This is the perfect example of a mantra that I often tell myself.
“The short term pain will never be longer than the long term relief felt afterwards.”
It sort of stems from another more known saying that I love which is “what you resist will persist!”
There is real power in being honest with yourself, setting clear boundaries, having clear intentions and knowing when to let things go that no longer serve you. The short term pain does suck but the long term relief of being free from something that no longer serves you mutually is an amazing feeling. No matter what, people have to learn things in their own time. I’m happy for you that you’ve made the decision to move forward!
