That report to Congress that you cited is interesting...

In Fiscal Year 2018, OVW made 535 discretionary awards totaling just over $269 million.

Overall, VAWA-funded grantees conducted 20,160 educational and public awareness programs and events that reached 668,132 students and 540,591 other community members.

Huh? With $269 Million they only managed to reach .3% of the US population? Seems wildly inefficient...

Findings from a nationally representative study of children exposed to violence, showed that one-third of respondents experienced a physical assault in the past year, and 13% of those aged 14-17 experienced sexual assault or abuse in that time.

Interesting, I wonder why they didn't split this statistic up by gender like they did almost every other stat? Lets look at the source, Finkelhor et al., 2015:

Assaults occurred to more boys than girls (41.6% vs 33.0%). Boys had particularly disproportionate levels of assault by adults (6.9% vs 3.3%), nonsibling peer assault (20.6% vs 10.4%), and nonsexual assault to the genitals (7.7% vs 2.4%).

Of course, because they didn't want to draw attention to boys as victims. Makes you wonder what else this report purposefully obscured. Also, genital assault over the lifetime was reported at 17.2% M - 4.7% F, and dating violence over the lifetime was 3.9% M - 3.2% F. Interesting this report doesn't make note of those. Some might say "Well it's VAWA, it's focused on women and girls!" but the report says:

However, VAWA programs and policies serve all victims of these crimes, including men

So they really shouldn't be purposefully obfuscating statistics that show men being more likely to be victimized.

The NISVS found that 44% of lesbian women and 61% of bisexual women, compared to 35% of heterosexual women, have encountered domestic/sexual violence (Walters, Chen, & Breiding, 2013). The same survey found that 26% of gay men and 37% of bisexual men suffer these crimes, compared to 29% of heterosexual men

Oop, there's that pesky woman on woman intimate partner violence stat again 👀

Lastly, 4 of the 18 grant programs said their grantees identified male victims as an underserved population. Those programs were:

Culturally Specific Services for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program
Training and Services to End Violence Against and Abuse of Women Later in Life Program (I assume they're saying men should have a program too, or this program shouldn't be gendered)
Sexual Assault Services Program–Grants to Culturally Specific Programs
Grants to State Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Program

‘Infinitesimal!’ I had never heard that word until I was a fully grown adult, when I had it practically spat in my face.

The speaker was a flustered former feminist friend of mine, who I knew from work. But at this very moment, I’m sad to say, she had become more feminist, than friend.

Her eyes, which were usually calm and blue, were angry. Her lips were pursed, and white. Her shaking fingers clasped in a ‘this small’ motion, inches from my face. 🤏

“The amount of men who are abused is infinitesimally small George!”

I was quiet.

At the time I didn’t know the word – but I safely assumed she meant “fuck all!”

So I sat and I watched my half drunk pint of beer sway ominously; gently lapping at the sides, as if we were all sat on a boat about to enter a storm.

Of course I knew what she was saying was not accurate. I knew that there were millions and millions and millions of abused men out there.

A number that was anything but ‘infinitesimal’.

But I also knew that I wanted to finish my beer, rather than wear it.So I did the familiar routine: sit down, shut up, take a ticket and wait your turn.

This isn’t about you.

But the walk home made me wonder.I’d always admired feminism’s belief of ‘nobody left behind’, no matter how small the minority, or how few the number.

I admired their work advocating for issues that affected tiny minorities of people, with the same commitment as any other.

No matter how small, all were welcome, lifted up and given their space.But never men.

No. Their problems were just too small, “infinitesimal” even.

To be compared to far out freak accidents like lightning strikes, getting eaten by a shark, or meeting Christopher Hitchens.

So why does a group that claims to advocate for total equality, so readily cover their eyes when asked to do that – but for men?

It doesn’t make sense, not then, or now.So tell me, does it make sense to you?

The toilet is a perfect synonym for men.

Everyone, no matter your skin color, sexuality, gender identity or disability uses you.

Women are just a bit more ashamed of using you, men make jokes about using you.

Most people have an average everyday toilet, but when there is a chance of sitting on a golden or very special one they hop right on it and forget about their own.

They get shit done, they’re important, they’re one of the most important things of modern civilization and got rid of sickness and diseases, yet always make sure they’re not to visible.

Public toilets get the most shit on them.

When they break or malfunctioning they’re easily replaced for a new one and the malfunctioning one will be left to rot on the streets and no one will give them a glimpse anymore.

Does it matter when all men's issues are just "MRA/incel" talking points to them?

I think a lot of feminists are just unaware of how hard it is to be an average guy. They forget men and women got it pretty hard in their own ways.

I hate to say it but I think feminists really don't care about us and it's fair I guess, they have their own problems to deal with.

I just wish we could come together and help solve some of these problems together.

Maybe it's just my particular feminist community, but we've actively advocated for men's rights and try to offer support in ways that we can. It can be tough, as there are many toxic communities out there, but there are feminists out there who do care deeply for the men in our lives and the rights they deserve.

The thing about International Men's Day also being World Toilet Day seems a bit disingenuous. Every day on the calendar has half a dozen silly unofficial "Official Microwave Safe Food Container Day" type holidays unilaterally declared by some special interest group or lobby.
