For #1 it seems like most of the research has found gender neutral motives. Things like "he wasn't listening to me" or "I was mad at him".

It's looking at it from an angle of "partner violence remediation hasn't been super effective, probs cause we're assuming men are the only ones motivated towards violence and ignoring women's motivations" and goes from there. Lots... lots of references to other research and papers, so be prepared for a deep rabbit hole if you're going to dig down.

The Partner Abuse journal's state-of-knowledge project goes into this a little. None of the differences are huge, but they note that self-defense is not a huge motivator for women or men, and that women are slightly more likely to be motivated by anger/retaliation.

ALSO BIG POINT ON #1: I want to know if there is a relationship between traditionally constructed femininity and female batterers, just like there tends to be a relationship with traditionally constructed masculinity (“control your household, don’t be a cuck” yaknow) and abuse.

I would caution against concluding that 'mothers are more abusive (than fathers, presumably)' if you're basing that solely on the fact that children are more likely to have been abused by a mother than a father. Children are simply around mothers much more than fathers.

Single-parent homes are much more likely to be headed up by a mother than a father, and male/female couples with children still tilt overall towards giving the mom greater oversight of child-rearing (especially with young children, and especially in families with 'traditional values', which remain a substantial minority). You'd need some statistic like 'acts of abuse per child-hour' to properly compare the psychological tendency of different genders and relatives to abuse children.

Lest anyone think I'm 'white knighting', I DO think the fact of maternal abuse — whatever its precise rate turns out to be — is under-appreciated in our culture and should be highlighted more to combat the hagiography of women/denigration of men that most here are all too familiar with. I just think making readily-rebuttable claims tends to reinforce dismissive attitudes towards those fighting misandry.

I'm curious if you have data about mothers preferring to abuse sons than daughters. It would not shock me if this were the case — actually it seems pretty likely given social attitudes towards boys — but I'm curious about how tilted this is. (Raw data here would probably be fine, as I don't think mothers spend more time around their sons than their daughters … the opposite seems more likely.)

As a man who doesn't get laid and is sick of being shamed for it, I'm telling you right now it would help you a lot if you put forth an ultra CLEAR CUT definition of "Incel". I don't take that evil label and a lot of people like to play word games when it comes to using it. If "Incel" involves a particular mentality then that is just more evidence that the label itself is problematic as it automatically includes not getting laid AND men can clearly have a million problematic views about women while still getting laid.
