This was encouraged by another poster in another subset of comments.

The thoughts are:

-men are more comfortable in competence hierarchies, even in a lower position, if they see the hierarchy function effectively and it working for them (even in a substandard fashion). This follows from men being more individualistic.

-women (due to elements such as hypergamy, an evolutionary need for safety, provisioning, etc) are less comfortable in competence hierarchies, often solely looking to higher rungs of the hierarchy compared to their relative position and looking to get their sans the requisite responsibility that would come with it. This follows from women being more collectivist.
