it’s not fair, much like everything else in life.

i’m of the belief that anyone can have whatever preferences they want, but some people don’t like that because they don’t want to admit that we’re dirty apes who follow the whims of our genitals. your friends are trying to play less shallow then they are because it’s not a decision that they personally have to live with. they feel comfortable taking what they perceive as some weird moral high ground.

It's not fair at all. Preferences are preferences and no one does anyone else a favor by ignoring a clear lack of attraction. It sounds like you behaved well by not wanting to hurt her feelings and your friends were wrong to shame you for your preference.

Those girls should know that you can contol your weight but have no control over height. Obviously those girls were just trying to shame you for having preferences, but felt that its ok to have them. You should have told the girl who had that rebuttal about height "females are supposed to be more femimine and weight (or lack of) is a very important trait for femininity. "

No. You maintained your standards. Which are reasonable. Your friends, and women in general however, are needlessly narrowing their potential dating pool. By filtering out men based on height. Which too is fine.

The issue isn’t what you said; it’s how you said it. Had you used better social skills; you could’ve simply said it more tactfully. e.g. ”She’s nice, but just not my type.”

That said I’m all for open, and direct dialogue. A person just has to be more discerning with it. Brutal honesty can delivered, without the brutality.

However…

From what you’re describing, it sounds like this girl might be loosely affiliated with your female friend group. If so, I would hazard a guess that said female friend group isn’t going to be very friendly to you for some time to come.

I have a handful of close female friends. I know that I can be honest with them, and not be judged for it. But that is because they’re true friends. The women you describe don’t seem like they’re that level of friend with you.

Just my $0.02. But it’s Friday, so I may or may not have started my weekend early.

Welcome to the (lack of) accountability of modern day women. No ability to self reflect and recognize personal shortcomings. While simultaneously being hypocritical in that they have preferences for things men cannot change (height) but getting upset if men have preferences women can change (weight)
