A story: Kaos (2.5yrs) is in a "mine" phase. "Dis is mine, not Mae-Hem". So I was explaining to her that everything in the house belongs to Mimi (my mom) and Mimi belongs to Pop.

My mother firmly assured me that she did not belong to Pop. She would have to think about whether Pop belonged to her and me and my siblings do belong to her but not to Pop.

They've been married for 40 some odd years. There is 0 chance that paternity is in doubt.

So I'm wondering how others perceive "belonging".

Is your stuff yours, his or ours? Are you his? Is he yours? Do the kids belong to both of you or just you?

I'm not talking about a literal or legal sense here....more what your heart or gut tells you.
