The video shows the man putting something in the drink he offers the woman, he grabs her arm and pulls her back when shes going to leave, and then wraps his arm around her.

If someone did this to me, Id punch them too. All of what he is doing is assault by US definitions.

I have to admit, I'd like to see her try that move in real life with a guy that big in a suit like that, because even when seated at my keyboard, when I tried her movies, I ended up tripping over my feet, falling on my ass, and having my arms tied together.

'I mean, don't get me wrong people should learn to defend themselves. But the video says 'hey if someone bothers you, you should choke them unconscious instead of saying 'no' like an adult.'

On the one hand, the guy did deserve to get knocked the fuck out, on the other, there are a billion better ways she could have handled the situation. Plus, the move they were demonstrating could easily cause brain damage or even be lethal if inappropriately used, it's extremely irresponsible to advertise stuff like that, ESPECIALLY because we all know that someone is going to be stupid enough to try and follow the instructions, possibly leaving someone a vegetable.

so did no one here see him spike the drink he tried to give her? did no one see her try to resist (physically moving away)? the guy would not have taken no for an answer. you guys complain and complain about women not being able to defend themselves in these situations, and then when a woman does defend herself, you whine about it being too violent, and the woman not just saying "no." christ.

This is a general problem with martial arts. When you have a hammer, you see every problem as a nail. Here you've got people who do BJJ who only think about solving problems the BJJ way (BJJ evolved more for territorial beach disputes than actually practical self defense). There's actually very little self defense instruction out there that focuses on diffusing a situation properly (fortunately, there are books on it, Rory Miller stands out as a good author for that).

So let's recap:

Facts

Stereotypical rapey guy maybe/maybe not spikes a drink in the back of a bar, woman doesn't notice
He offers the woman a drink, whispers something in her ear and tries to chat her up
She seems offended and refuses
He tries again, touches her elbow and puts his arm around her when she tries to leave
She pretends to respond, then chokes him out while he conveniently does nothing and looks confused
He very cooperatively lies neatly down on the bar to sleep while she goes back to her drink.

Analysis

Ok, obviously he was being a dick (duh, they cast and directed him to be as obnoxious as possible)
She was assaulted (as would be recognised by most legal jurisdictions) but only barely, and certainly not causing harm
Assuming he spiked the drink he's guilty of trying to drug her, but she wasn't aware of this so it can't be taken as justification for anything she did
She should, and did defend herself. I don't think anyone would question that
Her method of defence was dangerous both to her and him and way out of proportion to the assault he committed
What she did would not work on an even remotely sober opponent. It's not difficult to remove someone's hands from that position, in fact, you would have to be around twice as strong as your opponent to maintain them in that position if someone decided to knock them off.
If he had resisted, at all, she would have been screwed. She was turned sideways to her opponent, poorly planted in terms of her bodyweight and seated on a precarious barstool. If she decided to become physical she should have adopted a proper posture before actually engaging.
Instead of panicking (as nearly everyone would if you places your hands around their neck without permission) he merely looks confused and sheepishly allows her to choke him out. From this we can conclude that he's either so drunk he's barely aware of what's going on/mentally disabled in some way to the same effect. Either way he posed no physical threat to her and could easily have been dealt with by other means.
What she did was dangerous to perform on a sober person, and could result in brain damage. On a drunken individual it could be even more serious, possibly resulting in death.
She had numerous other options for dealing with him before escalating to a chokehold, she could have 1/ Asked someone for help 2/ Shrugged him off more forcefully until he left 3/ Given he was drunk to the point of not responding to being choked, she could probably simply have waited for him to pass out
After she escalated the confrontation to an uncalled for level of violence he helpfully falls unconcious on the bar. In reality unconcious humans (even ones not twice your weight) are extremely difficult to handle, anyone who's ever taken an occ-first-aid class will know this. He could easily have cracked his head off something, killing him. Or collapsed on top of her, possibly causing her injury on the way down.

Conclusions

He was guilty as hell and deserved a nice chat with the police (duh, they wrote him as a larger than life stereotype)
She had every right to defend herself, but chose an extreme and risky option not justified by the circumstances
The option she chose could only have been effective if he was too drunk to present any kind of threat
The people promoting this are unsafe to their students and the general public if they really think this is a sensible thing to teach

Unconscious in a matter of seconds? I don't think so. BTW it is easy to counter. Just jab your thumb under her chin as hard as you can(try it on yourself), it is painful as fuck and the attacker will probably let go.

She could have: 1) Told him to back off

2) Call for someone to get security

3) Push him away gently, as he seemed intoxicated and not violent

But seriously do you think someone will just stand there and say "Oh your choking me thats cool. You probably spent a lot of time and money on that technique so I'll let you do that". You can't just block off someone's airway's and then they have 0 control over there body. The body will react to anything bad happening to the body (start choking your friend and see if he sits there). In fact if the man reacts to the fact you are trying to choke him aggressively (which is the first response 99% of the time) I'm pretty sure the women will end up in a lot more pain than telling him to go away.

On top of that do you everyone in the pub will be like "Oh fainting man. Well he should not have tried talking to that woman" or will they say "ou bitch what the fuck did you do that for. Someone call the ambulance and police". Option 2 is the option I'll bet on unless my 18 year old mind not been exposed to this level of human stupid stupidity.
