Remember they can always choose to be circumcised as adults. There is honestly a real risk of permanently reducing your son's ability to feel sexual pleasure (this was considered a benefit in older times). There is also a fairly high chance of son's penis being catastrophically damaged. He could lose his penis or develop lesions that make erection bloody and painful.

There's no need to circumcise. I have two boys, they are intact. Who wants to have a newborn child immediately put into pain? Good luck and congratulations.

Ok lets imagine that there is a correlation between circumcision and lower rates of sexually transmited disease (even though studies show that the opposite is true for women, men are more protected, women less so. Along with all the huge issues with the methodology in the studies, and the fact that rates of circumcision do not correclate with levels of stds internationally, more studies on lack of correlation.)

Firstly correlation is not causation. If it turns out that the reason for the lower rates of std's in circumcised men is infact that circumcision lowers male sexual pleasureby removing the most sensitive glads on the penis then essentially you are condoning the reduction and abuse of male sexual function in exchange for a reduction is std rates. I would also imagine that castration greatly reduces the rates of males catching std's, but you would say it's barbaric. So how about chemically reducing all male sexual appetite? No physical harm would be done and all men would be more protection against stds? I am being ridiculous in these suggestions, noone short of the most extreme androphobes would say they are morally ok.

Ignoring the above, assuming that there is no harm to male sexual function. Simply due to serious medical complications being relatively rare, considering it is an un-neccessary procedure any complications are avoidable, also there is evidence that complications are much more common than the evidence suggests. How many babies do you think neo-natal circumcision prevents from catching std's? Presumably baby boys shouldn't be catching sexual diseases anyway, thus any supposed advantage is erased when it comes to neo-natal circumcision.

Leaving us only with Adult circumcision. Some suggest that adult circumcision is a more complex procedure, due to the need of pain killing medicine etc, however the rate of compliciations in adult circumcision is even lower than in neo-natal. Also adult circumcision removes the issue of people unprotected by the supposed benefits of circumcision, such as gay men who recieve anally, bi sexual men who recieve anally, asexual men who have no interest in sex, heterosexual introvenus drug taking men, etc... This would allow men who do their own research and decide ifthe suppose benefits are worth the risk depending on their lifestyle and sexuality.

Furthermore this idea that circumcision has no harms attached to it since medical complications are rare is not matched by any self reported studies of circumcised men. In fact some studies show that half of all men circumcision as babies have some form of PTSD

I am ok with rational sound of mind Adult males choosing to do whatever they wish to their own penis.

Neo-natal circumcision is in no way acceptable based on supposed sexual benefits.

Don't do it, unless it's for medical reasons. My friend had it done as a teenager because of Phimosis, which I understand. I guess he kinda liked it because 90% of us porn actors are cut, so in his head it was better, but it's not, you lose sensitivity and it's dryer. Foreskin acts like a reservoir to keep vaginal fluids in as well. I know it's soon to star talking about sex, but in 12 years (which comes quicker than you think) he'll thank you.

The health "benefits" have been very largely invented by those wishing to promote circumcision. As one claim after another has been falsified, so others have been invented. From claiming that circumcision cures mental debilities and "abnormal excitement" in both sexes we have had a string of other bogus claims.

The real reasons behind circumcision are: 1. Creating a society of warriors: all circumcised societies are violent and warlike. It is not coincidence that 11 out of the twelve genocides in recent history have involved circumcisers either as primary aggressors or main victims. In three cases both sides of a genocide have been circumcisers. 2. Envy from those who cannot stand to see others have a satisfactory sex life. 3. Profit for those, like the AAP, carrying out the operations.

If your son wants to be circumcised, he can make the decision for himself when he reaches 18. Until that time, regardless of what the law says, anyone cutting off part of his penis is committing a serious act of abuse.

Possibly my biggest problem with it, the pain. Doing something that common sense dictates should be unbearable painful, (and research agrees) and most parents never stop to consider if it's worth it, since there's a doctor telling them it's all normal.

If it isn't your body, you have no right to cut anything (permanent) off it that isn't required to save the persons life.

Note about the permanent qualifier: a while back I was watching some show on the BBC (Big Questions or something like that) and a Jewish man tried to compare circumcision to cutting the child's hair. What even the fuck?

Also, I would agree with cutting off an infant's body part in the event that it would save their life, e.g. they have a severe infection in a leg, or meningitis or something. As far as I'm aware, foreskin issues are rarely life threatening.

It should be up to each person to decide if they wish to keep or remove parts of their bodies unless there is pressing medical need and consent is not an option. There's basically nothing lost and much to be gained by simply respecting people's right to self-determination.

Full disclosure: Every single person on this subreddit is going to give you nothing but propaganda. For example, the so-called "documentary" typhonblue posted was created by a group (one man, actually, Matt Hess) that wants to unilaterally ban all circumcision, and also created anti-semitic "Foreskin Man" superhero comic cooks. They all want fewer circumcisions to happen for the sake of having fewer circumcisions, the medical costs be damned. If you want unbiased information, ask your pediatrician or check out what various national medical associations have to say.
