Don't know how many people who are going to read this article are from Toronto or the near area, but York University's campus is located near Jane/Finch. This entire area is considered to be one of the most dangerous areas on the city. It's really the location, not the student body that is creating this rise in sexual assault. Maybe it's University students who've been coddled by mommy and daddy not knowing how to take care of themselves and take proper precautions in this incredibly dangerous area.

Oh wait, that's victim blaming... I'm sorry.

Glad I'm done University, and decided not to attend York. This type of action would certainly elicit a transfer to another University.

The sexual predator in this latest incident is described as white, 5-foot-7 to 6-feet tall, 30 to 40 years old, with a thin build and clean shaven.

It doesn't even sound like the attacker was a student. So, why are we sending students to a manidory ~~class~~ indoctrination?

Going by the title, I was really hoping that the students of a women's studies class really had solved some crime through some combination of detective work on the ground, googling, partnering with other students.

I mean, that would actually be a great class to have taken.

Unless the crime was like figuring out who keeps pissing on their door.

Fear of crime seized on to propagandize about the collective guilt of a social group. Political indoctrination classes as a prerequisite for academic and professional careers. These are totalitarian policies.

York University has, remarkably, experienced its sixth reported sexual assault in less than one month

So that's about 72 a year, and heck let's say 90% go unreported so 720...out of 25,000 female students(also, only 13,000 male, so women outnumber men almost 2:1 here). So much for the "1 in 4" stat, even over 4 years.

The need to clamp down on sexual violence at York University is obvious. But forcing a new equity course on every student will do nothing to make the campus safer, and would serve only to encourage students uninterested from funding someone else’s thought experiment to take their tuition dollars elsewhere.

Unless the people committing those acts aren't students so they won't be taking the course...

I do like the sarcastic tone the Post is taking with the article.

“Hey buddy, is that the new iPhone 5? Hand it over. Actually, wait a minute, do I really want to do this? Or I am just acting out in response to an upbringing of socioeconomic discrimination and hardship? Yes, that’s it. Good thing I was forced to take that class two semesters ago. Pardon me, sir. My mistake. Here’s your phone back. I’m just discontented by your apparent privilege, and frustrated by a society that puts precedence on consumerism over social equity. Carry on.”

Edit: I live in Toronto and have been on the campus a few times (about 5 by my rough count). I've never felt threatened, but I am a male in fairly good shape in crowded areas, so that doesn't count for much.

At least it could possibly be an 'equity' class and it's not suggesting they only require men to take it. This could have easily been a case of requiring men to take a women's studies class for no reason. Not saying this is a good thing, just looking on the bright side for the sake of my own mood.
