Our best bet is to ignore them and remain vigilant in using our downvote/upvote buttons to keep extremist voices away from our movement (whether they be racist, homophobic, mysandric or misogynistic).

That would be novel on here if you could. And as another poster said, the advice is spot on.

25000 subscribers, what percentage of them are:

Feminists, militant or otherwise.
Men here to make as many anti-woman, misogynistic comments as they can muster.
Men who just like to bait the militant feminists- and invoke Godwin's law within 3 comments
Subscribers who one subscribed to it for one thread but never really read it/comment on it.
Genuine men who want to even out the playing field for men, have a real interest in exploring issues, that affect men at the expense of men, and are not anti-women.
Women who take an interest in men's rights.

And then we also have the support of a popular group blog that is posted frequently to reddit - No Seriously, What About Teh Menz? It shares our goals - it is focused on men's rights issues but treats feminism as a natural ally, and promotes gender egalitarianism as the ultimate goal. Our mods and activists are the creators and writers of that blog. Do any of you also have connections or ideas for promoting?

noseriouslywhatabouttehmenz.wordpress.com - egalitarian(?) for linking to mr manbooz himself, david feutrelle. Yes, David, who wants to dismantle the mens rights movement and who threw a hissy fit when Paul Elam wiped the floor with his lack of arguing skills.

So watch for this soon, or other mensrights appropriation efforts.

Feminists would love to tell us exactly which of rights are permissible.

And remember, thinking that people would lie to get your favor makes you distrusting and paranoid.

EDIT: I misunderstood SharkSpider and who he was working with (the new masculist subreddit). Otherwise, I leave my opinion on NSWATM as I wrote it.

Alright, I will ask.

ASSOCIATION

You dismiss NSWATM's links with David Futrelle and Manboobz (and maybe /amr), and ask for evidence - Manboobz IS the evidence.

The common impression is that MRA's are nothing but whiners complaining over loss of privilege, and they are saturated with misogyny. Which is is true to a certain extent, and why those who go looking for it find it so easy to have their suspicions confirmed. Feminist blogs already catalog every outrageous comment they see, and Manboobz is populated by feminists - all preaching to the choir.

A search of the links in the blogroll quickly turns up the same attitude to MRAs, one that allows them to ask with a straight face:

So is there anything that the MRAs have a legitimate point on?

If you read that and got angry like I did, then why does Feministe point to that same article in support of its definition of MRAs?

Why is Amanda Marcotte allowed to write this at the GoodMenProject:

Men’s rights activists—a loose coalition mostly comprised of men embittered that they’re not getting as much tail as they believe they’re due and men embittered after having their wives up and leave against their wishes

Once again, the blog Feministing thinks this attitude is terrific!

Manboobz is, of course, the most egregious of the lot. By exploiting women's genuine anger at misogyny, Futrelle does nothing but give an amplified voice to the very misogyny he supposedly despises. He thinks nothing of writing an article comparing Brevik's manifesto with MRA views, or calling to dismantle the men's right movement.

If you support men's rights, then could you please explain to me how this is supposed to help those concerned to become a positive and effective force? Given that Feminism has been carrying the same albatross around their neck for decades (of being bitchy man-haters), perhaps you think it would be productive for MRAs to continue and expand on their efforts to declare ALL feminists wrong on ALL issues? To focus - to the exclusion of all other objectives - on pointing out stupid and hateful things said by feminists?

I am here at /menrights to directly interact with twenty five thousand people interested in men's rights. It the perfect position to address the very issues these websites claim to care so much about. Feminists could very easily help by flooding into MRA sites and this subreddit, but they would rather stay safe within their own strongholds and cluck about how horrible it all is. ಠ_ಠ

APPROPRIATION

A lot of the current contributors, myself included, are highly against trying to view men's issues through the feminist lens that's so far been applied to gender studies.

Are you serious? Let me give you a list of issues for men:

Those are just the top of the blog, but I think you can see the trend. These are not topics on MRA sites - you are very much participating in a Feminist driven agenda. This is not concern for men, but yet another attempt to frame feminist issues as male problems. These moderates will gladly accept that Patriarchy Hurts Men Too, as long as they can continue to preach about rape culture, constructed gender roles, and sexual objectification. They want the debate to be centered on the morass of social issues that has them bogged down, because they know that the objective discrimination that men and MRAs talk about is starting to resonate. MRAs can be dismissed - the issues cannot be.

I do ask that people give in an honest shot

I always do that. I waded through a dozen articles on cocks, but nothing on child support or child custody. I see plenty on rape, but nothing on paternity fraud. Plenty on media bias, but nothing about a judicial bias which favors treatment for women and incarceration for men. VAWA, Selective Service, gender imbalance in education - none of these touched on since the original invocation, and I don't expect these issues to ever get much treatment.

The only post on false accusation of rape was a man who had experienced it and gave his own view in a strictly moderated climate complete with trigger warning. And the VERY first response is from Eden:

I’d be careful describing anyone as “histrionic” – it’s a pretty woman-negative word, with roots in “hysteria” which only women could be locked away for.

I stopped reading there.

You can read and participate in NSWATM if you wish. I don't hate them, but I have seen their type before. A small group of attention seeking feminist bloggers, an incestuous family of shameless self-promoters and cross-linkers, attempting to gain notoriety by divorcing themselves from the misandry and self-victimization that rooted in Feminism.

My question is: why?

TLDR; Misogyny is used as an excuse to delegitimize MRAs, and men's rights by extension. Feminist blogs are not necessarily for men's rights just because they say they are.

I've read everything posted to r/Communityplans. There are only two contributors there from NSWATM (that I know of), and one active one. I've read all of their articles on NSWATM and I see nothing wrong with them (unlike someone like Ozymandias, for example, who posts maybe 1/3 tolerable content at best) In my opinion, manboobz writers jumped the hell on to that NSWATM thing as part of their appropriation shit. I don't see anything to suggest that every writer for that blog is part of some anti-MRA think tank.

If the list of issues you posted are the only ones covered, that's a problem. That said, there's nothing in current discussion on moderation policies that will make that the case. If this ends up anywhere near nswatm: the subreddit, I'll be genuinely surprised, because the level of anti-MRA posting policies that would be required to make that happen is basically infeasible.

No, the "hearsay" part is where I'm questioning the latter part of the link. I know about the whole manboobz and nswatm thing, but I also know that that blog has some not-too-bad authors who post stuff that's not ridiculous or condescending or whatever. Obviously I don't like the fact that they included people from AMR in their blogging and I wish they'd just remove them entirely but I don't run nswatm so that isn't my decision.

What I'm calling hearsay is that you're assuming that there's strong links between the new subreddit and AMR shit. I don't know who the mods will be, what the comment policy will be, or what the mods will post to the subreddit. Obviously if the mods are nswatm contributors, or AMR people, or if their comment policy asks people to put "trigger warning" before posts and tells people to check their privilege, then there's some serious appropriation going on. I haven't seen that, yet.

As far as being a rival mens rights movement, I don't want that. I wouldn't mind having another subreddit that gives heavier weight to different topics and makes an effort to show people that the notion of men being a uniquely privileged class is ridiculous. Of course, if anyone starts telling me that MRAs are doing it wrong, they can fuck off.

Its not hearsay, its easy to see that the writers and mods are regulars at manboobz and have an anti mens movement agenda from their blogs and their posts at manboobz. Anyway, here were divided over two separate men's rights movements. The original men's movement and one that's clearly controlled by feminists, which is what they want, division. So I'm contributing to this by arguing with you about these two different movements. If your new movement was genuine, it would be aligning itself with the original movement.
