It's curious, but you'd have to look at the actual proceedings to understand why... IE, if he is from out of state, has a criminal record or other pending criminal charges.

Not saying it isn't sexism, we all know the criminal justice system treats women with kid gloves, but in this case we don't have all the information.

Ok here is what I don't get apparently it was the woman who had the prior arrest record here but the guy got the higher bail. The article below does not mention any prior arrests for the man but the woman seems to have quite a few.

Huerta has two previous arrests in two other counties. Last year, she was charged with DUI in Pasco County. And in 2009, she celebrated her 20th birthday by drawing charges of resisting arrest and obstruction in Leon County

Douglas was released the next afternoon after posting a $10,000 *bond*.

Huerta remains in custody in lieu of $2,500 *bail*.

The guy probably paid a bondsman instead of $2500 to the court.
The DailyMail article does not actually say that they were held to different amounts of bail, and the ABC article just says $10,000 bond for both.

isn't bail based on how much you're worth? If that's how it works then the court just values men 4X as much as women.

Bail is set according to a person's ability to pay, not the severity of their crime.

From the article we do not know why the man received a higher bail amount, but it is likely because he has some kind of prior arrests, perhaps for lewd and lascivious acts.

I used to work in a county jail, and I've overseen countless bail hearings. Employment is already known by the judge, as well as the city/county clerk. The intake process gets pretty much every bit of relevant information you could possibly imagine (I've done all that, too).

Really, though, bail is set based off of numerous things. Did the arresting officer request or suggest increased bail? Does the accused have a history of similar offenses, or any other offenses that could be considered? Is the accused in a situation that leads the judge to believe that he may run?

In my own experience, I've seen far fewer women with worse crimes that were likely to run (though could more easily be persuaded into doing so). I'm assuming that the males bail was higher because he had a prior record.

The main thing that surprises me about this, however, is that neither was charged with corruption of a minor, since there were children in relative close-proximity.
