I don't get it. As a retired middle school teacher, I can assure you those most commonly using cunt, whore and slut in everyday conversation are girls. Hands down champions.

There are varying degrees of insult. I believe that women are asking for some specific words to hold a level of insult that I disagree with. If "cunt" is to be held to the same standard as "nigger", then I humbly request that they follow through and upgrade the status of "dick". Since this isn't going to happen, I feel that some feminists need to get off their high and hypocritical horses.

That is because words like whore are used to shame us for sexual promiscuity. There is no male equivalent to whore. Sure you can say ca, stud,player,pimp.. but none of these words have the same sting.

If a woman is behaving in a bitchy or slutty or whore-ish manner then she has earned those insults as far as I am concerned.

However, calling someone a bitch or a slut or a whore based on some other fairly unrelated characteristic or behaviour that was disliked comes across as sexist to me.

I mainly take issue with insults that are about sexual behaviour, as it is a way of degrading women and the equivalent does not really exist for men, and it all ties into the irritating double standards. A whore is a whore, but don't call a girl a whore because she didn't put out.

I take no issue with the use of the word cunt, in fact I rather like it as a word.

You're right. The problem isn't the words themselves. But there is a double standard surrounding them. The actions that make a woman a slut or a whore would make a man a player or a ladies-man. I think some people see the words as perpetuating the double standard.

Edit: Yes, the double standard goes both ways, and yes, women perpetuate double standards just as much as men. OP specifically referenced "cunt," "whore," and "slut," which are commonly seen as words used for women. Please don't read anything more into my comment.

I don't think women care that much when they're used as swear words. I'm sure plenty do, and they baffle me too. The uproar is more against casual use, which is surprisingly common, which denotes a general feeling that women are inferior.

If I walk down the street and see a woman wearing a short skirt and call her a slut, people would not consider that acceptable (and rightly so)

I love when someone decides that their point of view is the right one. Rudeness is typically just doing something that is not the norm.

You have to decide whether or not you are more worried about rudeness or truth. If a woman is a slut, then that is an appropriate moniker. I don;t need to value judge it, and in fact not all women consider being a slut a bad thing..
