This is fucking sick. Parents should love their children no matter what they are.

There are women who would kill to be able to give birth, much less multiple times and/or to twins.

My dad told me once that my mom desperately wanted a girl, i would never tell her this but i have always felt the first thing i ever did in life was disappoint my mother.

Don't get me wrong i love my mother and she has been and still his a wonderful mom but i think it's a pretty shitty thing to do to a child to make them feel like a failure over something they have absolutely no control over.

I don't get the drive to fight nature. Even if you were to get the desired gender there is no assurance that the girl won't be masculine in nature or simply disinterested in pink, cliche girl activities.

That article was pretty disgusting, but the OP's title is a bit misleading..I think these women are crazy and definitely not the norm or even in danger of becoming the norm. Most parents I know were excited about their kids either way, because both boys and girls have the opportunity to be individuals and pursue their inclinations in modern times.

It is the same story again. Men who only want boys are misogynists or patriarchs or whatever. Women who only want girls are gender disappointed. There are support groups, forums etc.

To me as a young father this is all a bit crazy, thinking of some of the mothers on the first page, I really think there must be something wrong with you if you are disappointed with your healthy babys gender.

What I'd like to know:

If you truly are a misandrist mother, and you have a male child, and assuming he grows up to have some masculine personality characteristics - in other words he is confident, he is forceful with his opnions when convinced they are valid - when does that mother switch over from being in love with this child to hating him?

Or, more generally, what is the cut-off point? In the continuum or masculinity, on one end sniveling, groveling eunuch... and on the other end the genetic child of Arnold Schwarnzenegger, Donald Rumsfeld, James Bond, and that guy from the Dos Equis TV commercials... when does the hate kick in?

It can't be a zero tolerance thing, because everyone is repulsed by a snivelling eunuch.

This has nothing to do with feminism. This is insanity.

Feminism, at least the feminism that I understand and identify with, is about seeing individuals as just that -- human individuals. And the role of feminist parents? To support their children, love their children, and help their children see all the options they have. That means NOT having girls to dress up as ballerinas (just buy a baby doll if you want an object to dress up, don't birth a baby), and NOT assuming your sons are incapable of love and compassion, or caring for you in old age. Have a child because you value people and life, because you want to be able to experience a very unique and vital relationship. Accept that there are huge surprises inherent in parenting. Don't put the heavy, heavy weight of all of your cultural baggage about gender on your unsuspecting infant.

Don't even get me started on how wrong circumcision is.

I think that some feminists and some men's rights activists have a real shared interest in dismantling unfair and damaging gender stereotypes. But this? This is perpetuating those very stereotypes, and it's just totally wrong.

I have two little girls and it is absolutely amazing :-) They are loving and full of joy every hour of every day. If you think this is a personal sacrifice I would say I never thought of it like that.

I bought them an iMac but they are not favoring it over other types of play. I kind of admire that.
