In the era of gender equality, why men are still expected to sacrifice their lives to defend women instead of expecting women to start acting like adults and defending themselves? Why the people who claim to be against gender roles want to force gender roles on men?

A number of good samaritans got killed in recent weeks for trying to intervene against hate crimes in progress. This very broad notion (it extends far beyond the single example of Yang) that men have an obligation to put their physical safety on the line to be physical protectors is just another example of "gender roles for thee but not for me".

Like, I love Andrew Yang 100% when it comes to economic policies, drug policies, and pretty much everything that isn't gender based.

But he still reinforces these completely outdated expectations. It sucks.

This is essentially the definition of "Toxic Masculinity" isn't it..? Socially enforced gender roles which are dangerous or damaging to men and society in general. To put men into the role of protector of women, often at risk of their very lives, is "toxic masculinity". This is sexist. I was told sexism is bad and needs to be stopped. Is this no longer true..?

Will feminists "cancel" Andrew Yang for his "patriarchal" views? So far, I only hear crickets chirping. Men are humans, not servants to women. Women are equal to men, and can defend themselves. Or they can die trying, just like they are suggesting the men do.

I agree with the sentiment, but this is slightly misleading. I think that the "men" referred to here are the security guards who watched while the Asian woman was beaten and closed the door on her.

I’d say never risk your life if you think there’s a high chance of serious harm being done to you. If it’s just one unarmed dude then sure. Even better if you’ve got a couple buddies with you. But don’t be a dumb hero.

Also this case if referring to the security guard. It’s his job to intervene in cases like that but he just watched and then closed the door on the lady.

Dude they were talking about a 65 (!) YO woman. She is elderly, and a guy attacked her. And your first response is to blame her for not defending herself? This is some next level shit right here. And by the way everybody should come help a person who is attacked, weather you are a man or woman, and weather the attack is towards a man or a woman. Yep, the thing that really bothers me with all this right now is that there's this active encouragement for women to just be complete asshats towards men for just innocuous, clearly well meant stuff taken well out of context - there seems to be this social expectation that they should be able to berate you in public for any slight they perceive and that she should be able to rely on the other men around her to protect her when it's clear she wouldnt piss on them either if they were on fire.
