I have young boys and I recently discovered that they will do everything necessary to get what they want. They have to earn computer privileges and after a deliberately rubbish attempt to cleaning their room I told them it wasn’t enough to get anything and it would have to be as spotless as if I’d done it. Well they got clothes and hoovers and I honestly couldn’t have done better myself. Even when they’re children, if they want to, they will!!!

Men operate by incentives. "what's the least cost (to me) for the most benefit (to me)?" Even at the expense of someone else.

You can fight tooth and nail over it, or nag to the ends of earth. But my suggestion is don't waste your energy; instead speak their language...by making yourself higher cost & bigger demands from the very beginning. High quality services deserve high prices. After all, chanel products got customers, and they never go on discount.

I’ve developed a hard-won comfort level with just sitting on my ass sometimes and not feeling guilty about it.

The way men AND women are conditioned about this is such a mess. I think it’s messed up to be “man at a dinner party” level of useless and entitled, but it’s also a leftover bit of patriarchal conditioning to feel, as a woman, like everything is your responsibility.

Sometimes it’s not my turn, not my job, not even my business and I’m going to sit there in my peace. So I love this!

My partner would clean after our dinner if we eat together or we clean after ourselves if we eat separately. Also, in our agreement, since he doesn't want to think of what to cook that they, I'll take care of the cooking, he'll eat whatever i cooked that day without complaint, clean up, take care of the leftovers and also, help me buy groceries.

I'm torn on this for a different reason. I could never imagine, as a host, expecting my guests to help clean up or do any "job" while visiting me. I would actually never allow it. You are my guest and your job is to have a good time and let me enjoy your company, that's it. I don't even want you bringing food. Flowers or a bottle of wine if you really want to but that's it. So that's the mentality I have when I am a guest. I'll bring my plate to the kitchen and maybe something else if I have another hand free but that's it...... LOL

I will help my mom though when she is hosting because she's my mom and I'm not going to let her do everything oUt oF pRinCiPlE.

When it comes to general domestic duties though context is always key. If someone is a stay at home wife and the man is working a full time job and financially supporting the family unit then I do believe it is fair and reasonable for the woman to handle the household tasks such as cooking and cleaning. The man obviously still needs to handle the bigger (blue) jobs like shoveling and mowing the lawn and all that and should be present and active with the children when home but cooking dinner and cleaning up after it shouldn't be an issue for the woman.

My man takes care of me in so many ways, I get to show my care for him by cooking and cleaning. We have balance and THAT'S what is important. A tit for tat relationship sounds like hell honestly. If you don't WANT to take care of your partner then you shouldn't be in that relationship. You're in a business transaction at that point.
