I went through this very situation. I allowed my sister to stay with me while she was looking for an apartment. After 5 months, she hadn't paid any of the bills that she agreed. When I confronted her about it, she threatened me with a large kitchen knife.

My dad's reaction: "Oh, she was probably just afraid of you."

Me: "How could she be. I never yelled at her or went near her. I haven't yelled at her since I was 12."

My mom's reaction: "That's just what brothers and sisters do. You don't know because you never had a fight with her before."

................ OK. So switch the roles. If I had a knife pulled out, would that just be a sibling thing?

It took several weeks of me explaining over and over again to extended family, friends, etc before they finally admitted it was domestic violence.

I did nothing because I didn't know what to do. I didn't have anyone in my life to help me deal with it the right way. We need to make sure this doesn't keep happening. We need to educate men, so that they know how to handle situations like this.

Dr. Phil been awful for a long-time. From the time that he told someone who was having trouble getting into a relationship she needed to sleep guys to get them to commit to the many other awful things this man needs to be stopped.
