It can be overwhelming trying to "get into" that many hobbies. Since you say that you zone out, presumably when he explains X Y or Q about comics or video games. I would suggest asking him what he likes about Comics.

Who's his favorite villain? What super power would he want?

What was the first video game he played? Any content creators that he likes?

Finding out the why of someone can be more engaging that having facts read off.

From a man, instead of trying to learn or like something he's a geek about, you can support him in other ways like "I saw this video games/comics convention coming up on x date, let's go there together." and maybe offer to buy the entrance tickets if there is any, would mean so much more.

Or from the man's perspective on his gf/wife going shopping for clothes/makeup, we probably don't have a huge interest on these stuff but we know that by just being there and letting you do your shopping would mean a lot to you.

Instead of trying to get interested in these hobbies, why not reframe the way you talk to your partner about them through the lens of "Why does it make him happy?" and ask him questions about what's good about whatever topic he's talking about/why he's interested in it/what makes him happy about it? My boyfriend is interested in some things that I am not that interested in - but I like talking to him about them because I love knowing what makes him happy about those things and what he likes about it specifically, if that makes sense. I ask tons of questions about what made him happy when XYZ happened, and why it's important, and why it's interesting to him. I like his hobbies insofar as they make it possible for me to connect with him and hear what he loves about them. I don't try to pretend necessarily that I like those things themselves (and he probably knows I don't).

My husband and I have completely different tastes in music. He is a power metal fan while I like lower energy music like hoizer. We have a lose agreement to always play classic rock in the car because neither of us particularly likes the others music.

But I've learned a silly amount about metal still and its just by asking him questions. I find the conversations more memorable and engaging when I'm driving the conversation even though I could care less about the genre. But I do heavily poke fun of him for his taste, and he does the same to me

My boyfriend makes bullwhips by hand and sells them as a side gig. I crochet big beautiful blankets. What's worked for both of us is asking some questions of each other from time to time, depending on what's been happening with our respective crafts. Being a better listener would really help you.

It's also nice if you have days where you're hanging out but doing your respective hobbies. You could do something you love while he plays a video game, maybe in the same room and maybe not. We've done that a couple of times, and it's worked out very well for us.

For me, I mostly want my boyfriend to appreciate the aesthetics and the time spent on crochet, particularly when I make something for somebody else. For him, he seems to want a listener when he talks about the process, and an admirer of his skillset.

I don’t think you need to actively “support” his hobbies but just leave him quietly to get on and enjoy them. Most men/women have different hobbies and friends outside of their relationship and they don’t necessarily have to mix.

One of the ways a woman can be “child-like” (in the good sense) is by having a general sense of curiosity about things and asking questions. My husband enjoys hunting/fishing and I’m not exactly interested in those activities but when he talks about them I really let myself hear him and then I ask him literally anything that comes to my mind. And actually, that can lead to a much more interesting conversation!

I don't know what type of games he is into but you could look into some more casual ones like stardew valley, animal crossing or minecraft. All great for multiplayer and easy to get into.

There’s good suggestions in this thread, but I also wanted to ask;

Do you guys have any overlapping interests/hobbies? — If so, it could be a good time to get more into them together. —If not, maybe there’s something you could try. It doesn’t have to be anything serious, and it’s totally okay if you guys try something and neither one of you loves it. The discovery and the sometimes funny fails are part of the fun :)

I watch YouTube videos about whatever video game he’s interested in or follow the subs here on Reddit. That way when he’s telling me about his interests I at least know what he’s talking about. I respect him enough to value his interests more than my disinterest in the subject whatever it may be.

I think it’s okay to not be interested in everything he is interested in, as long as y’all have common ground. You can always learn enough to where you at least know what he’s talking about. I don’t think you have to be an expert in any interest in order to understand it. Like, okay he likes video games. Ask which ones. Ask what kind they are (MMO, Strategy, RPG, etc.) and just try to remember which ones he’s playing and periodically ask. Make him some snacks for a big raid or game that he’s having. Buy him hobby related interests that he’s looking forward to. There are tons of ways to show that you care. I mean, you even asking these questions prove that you do.

You don’t have to feign interest or fake anything. I think when our partners are interested in something we should do our best to listen and understand. Like, not all guys understand my Disney obsession but they at least know a bit about it enough to talk about it with me.

You don't need to like these things. Just be supportive. Unless your guy hopes you will be what you're not, then there's no issue. Do not jump hoops for anyone.

That said I love games, comics, sci Fi. Anime.

I'm a nerd. I love my nerdy stuff.

Anyway he prob likes you for you. So. Nap away!
