Hello Ladies,

I was wondering whether any of you had any tips for dealing with an amicable breakup? This entire sub is a great resource for breakups in general, but I find a lot of the content focused on breaking it off with LVM/NVM, which isn't really my current situation- I broke off a relationship with a guy who seemed very good. The breakup wasn't a result of any shitty actions on his part, rather, I felt like our life goals just weren't compatible and we would have had to turn into a long-distance relationship in a few months, which I wasn't prepared to do.

I am dealing with it decently well, but I do feel sad and a bit heartbroken, even though the breakup was amicable and he reacted with a lot of understanding and kindness, agreeing with me on my assessment of our life goals being too radically different. Rationally, I know I made the right choice- we weren't going to work out and would have wasted each other's time- but his lack of apparent LV characteristics makes it hard to implement advice like 'write a list of all the shitty things he used to say and read it when you feel sad!'.

And whilst I rationally know we weren't going to work out, I do sometimes catch myself thinking about how we might have survived long-distance or- worse!- how we might reconnect after we both are back in the city we currently are in and somehow work through our fundamentally different goals in life. I know that's nonsense, but him being a decent guy and the breakup being so amicable kind of makes me wistful in a way I never was for an ex.

So ladies, what are your self-care tips after an amicable breakup? How do you deal with these nostalgic feelings?
