I’m so pissed. I’m sat here in the parking lot of a park at 11:30am waiting for teammates who were supposed to be here at 11.

I just moved to a new city, and so of course I joined a bunch of pick up sports groups to get to know people. I even joined a volleyball league. We got our team assignments last week, and almost immediately people started making plans to meet up and play a game before we start playing league nights.

Today is the day! Saturday 11am at the specific park we were going to play! The dude who did most of the organizing is radio silent, and the other guy, at 11:01 emailed to ask if we were still meeting. I said I was here at 11:10 and that I’d be leaving in five minutes if no one showed up. Same guy then says he can be there in ten if anyone else was coming.

So of course I left, and at 11:40 the guy who said he could come said he had arrived, and the first guy who was gungho about meeting says at 11:50, “oh sorry saturday is a no go for me.”

Like what is the point? Why did we spend all week picking a time and place if no one was going to show up?

This is already on top of the fact my friend “cancelled” on me yesterday. I expected to leave the house around 8:30-8:45, and I know to be “flexible” (re: late) with her, but it was 10pm by the time she said she was going to be late, and that’s when I said I was staying in.

I’ve been trying for the last five years to be more flexible with time. I was raised on the premise that if you’re on time, you’re late. And while I’m not mad if people are ten minutes late, it’s situations like these where I just can’t help but feel it personally. Not that I think anyone is doing this TO ME in a punishing sense, but that it feels like direct disrespect, and I can’t tolerate it anymore. But if I don’t tolerate it, I will have no social life whatsoever.

I’m so mad.
