When did you decide to quit your job after you found out that you were pregnant?

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and am working until probably 37 weeks, so long as I can make it that far still feeling good. Babies are expensive to care and prep for so even though I'll be a SAHM and will be able to live on my husband's salary, we're glad to have the extra income for now even if some of it now just goes into savings and we don't need it ALL for baby.

It would all depend on what you really want to be doing for the next 7-8 months though. Preparing for the baby and nesting will take time and effort, but it definitely won't take ALL of your time for the entire length of your pregnancy that's left. But if you have the means and desire to stay home now (or whenever you want to give your notice) then go for it!

There’s definitely two lines of thought here.

The reality is that miscarriage rates are high in the first trimester. You could, very sadly, experience this. If you would regret quitting in the event of a miscarriage, I’d wait.

But I fell for that line of “don’t quit until the second trimester!” and I seriously wish I quit the day I got a positive test. I wanted to leave my job anyway so even if I miscarried, I would have been fine without working. And I was sick during the first trimester. Threw up 8-10 times a day, I was constantly nauseous, I was so exhausted. It was the absolute worst part of my pregnancy by far, even though I went past my due date. I wish I hadn’t worked through it. I had no energy for anything but doing a pretty half assed job at work. No energy for myself, my husband, or my home.

So I wish I had quit in the first trimester but only because if I had miscarried, I would have been fine with it.

I worked until I couldn’t fit into my shoes anymore. So right about 38 weeks. Waiting for baby to arrive is very tough at the end so I was glad to have a distraction (and the extra money). If you are only part-time and you don’t hate your job, you will enjoy having something to do to keep you distracted. I had pretty bad morning sickness too and working seemed to keep my mind off of it.

About 3 months. I was a chemist so it wasn’t exactly safe anymore.

I waited until my 7th month with my first. That gave me enough time to get everything ready for my daughter and I also got to enjoy my last few months as childless adult.

I worked until I was 24 weeks. I had planned to work through my entire pregnancy, because I loved my job and wanted to create as smooth a transition for them as possible, but was put on bed rest. Definitely wait until your 2nd trimester.

My baby boy will arrive in February 2022

I won't quit, I will work as long as I can (maybe around 32 weeks, as I'm a nurse), then stay home for 6 months after birth and then go back to work for about 2 days a week.

But personally I would wait at least until the 2nd trimester, or maybe week 20, like half of the pregnancy. But it's always up to you, how you feel, how well you are... Every pregnancy is different!
