Florida Signs new Fatherhood Rights Bill

Florida Governor DeSantis Signed into Law HB 7065, a $70 million initiative, will provide resources for educational and mentorship programs to help children, fathers and families in the state through the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

DJJ will create a mentorship program to help at-risk youth through the new initiative, hosting various programs such as barbershop talks and fatherhood classes.

DCF will also launch a statewide campaign to raise awareness around the importance of fatherhood, supporting nonprofit organizations to help fathers stay engaged and connect with their children, along with case managers and resources to assist fathers looking for employment opportunities.

This is not a fatherhood bill. This is a bill to make mentoring available to young men. While this is a good idea, keeping the biological father in the child's life is more important.

Support equal 50/50 shared parenting by contacting DeSantis office and tell him to sign the new custody and alimony law that is headed for his desk after it passed the state Senate and legislature.

And call Governor DeSantis office. They just ask for your name and phone number. There is a 10-20 minute hold time.They want to hear our stories and I don't think you need to be a Florida resident. I told them about raising my son successfully from age 9 months who is now 25. They wrote it down.

This feels to me like a political move to get eyes off the 50/50 bill. I'm scared of it. Seems like it gives DeSantis the political coverage to possibly veto the 50/50 bill.

The way he talks about it delusional. Adding support programs to kids he puts in jail and divorce - but no legal rights for fathers in divorce or legal rights for boys in those jails. So basically just rewarding the current system.

Start checking actual policy, not falling for rhetoric. Republicans largely never cared about men's rights and do everything they can to push men into subservient tradcon roles they have in mind for them. Them caring about truly helping men's rights? Not in the 1980s. Not now. They've pretty much proved they'll never change. This doesn't mean democrats are any better, but at least democrats aren't going around paying lip service to men's rights and then going and doing things like this.

But hey, if you want, keep voting republican out of wanting to hear nice considerate talk, complaints about woke and fearmongering about vaccines (which even Trump doesn't support, considering how he came out with the "operation warp speed" program to deliver vaccines and was booed by his own far right supporters).
