I am 43m, was married 16y, no kids, live in NC.

She makes 30k, I make 140K per year. She is saying she still needs $2,400 monthly on top of what she makes.

She has $220,000 in cash marital and $400,000 inheritance received during the marriage. Everything together she has over 1 million. My net worth is less than half that.

Part of her listed need amount are $1,000 for her mortgage and she is funding her 401k with $500 per month.

  1. Her mortgage has about $95,000 left to pay off, but she chooses not to. The cash on hand seems to not affect alimony, but the monthly mortgage payment does.

  2. Found online notes where alimony cannot be used to fund IRA, but nothing about 401k. Can 401k funding be part of her need as that reduces her income leaving larger need for alimony?

Reading these it sounds like those are her choices not her genuine need. Your input would be appreciated.

Can someone point me to the article about attorneys sabotaging men? I'd like to read it since I've found more information to help my case from books and from kind and helpful people like yourselves than my paid attorney.
