Depends what you’re looking for, I think.

For hook-ups it probably doesn’t matter. If you’re looking more for a relationship, it probably does. Speaking personally, I swipe left on every guy without a bio, no matter what he looks like — I need to get at least some sense of what we have in common and what his personality is like. If he has no bio I assume he only wants hook-ups and move on.

You should view your pictures as your bio.

That said, you should not ignore the written word unless you are an idiot. It's a great place to showcase stuff that you can't show in your pictures.

Can only speak for me personally but when I was on apps I would immediately swipe left if I didn’t find a guy attractive. But before swiping right I would always check the bio first. I think everyone is different really can’t really make a statement on that sort of thing that is true for all women

What is a way it can hurt you? I mean obviously there is but if you wanted a somewhat neutral bio there has to be something safe you can put. Lets put it in numbers

80% of women don't care about bio

20% of women do

So a blank bio is hurting you against 20%, not all will like what you say so maybe you can win over 10% of them by putting something. So the math here works in your advantage as long as you don't put something to lose much of the other 80%, but they don't care much about bio anyway so how can you go wrong?

Note that the percentages above are only the women who find you attractive, obviously a bio isn't going to help you win over 10% of all women but I just meant it might be a 10% increase to the amount of matches your getting whatever amount that might be.

If it's just sex and casual conversation, sure, why would you need a bio for that. If you're looking for someone who can recite all of the LOTR novels to you from memory you might wanna allude to being into that in your bio so you don't waste time on people who aren't interested in that.

Making a dating profile without a bio is like looking at apartments on Craigslist with no descriptions. What is the point of OLD if you can't eliminate people.

Pictures are the first filter Description is the second filter. Then they read your message and respond.

Women spam swipe like men. It's basically encouraged by these apps.

I think it’s already been understood that for “swiping apps” for OLD the pic is the most important thing.

If you both match THEN she might read your bio. And then if she’s like “nah,” they just ghost.

Not saying anything about if it’s right or not. Just that’s how it is.

I don't use dating apps personally because it just couldn't really possibly give me what I need to start feeling attraction. I'd end up just wasting people's time wanting to make a lot of friends. But I mean.. if it was my only option to meet partners, I'd just skip right on over anyone without a bio. I'm there for long-term. And personality and interests are what matter most in that. Without that meshing, your long-term relationship is already destined to go down the pooper.

This is common sense yes the bio is the least important part of your online dating profile bad bio excellent photos>excellent bio bad photos but it's still a good tool to use to screen out in order to set certain frames ie looking for a shag, demonstrate value and keeping it to the point where you can invite women to message you. I've also done experiments whereby i got more matches with a bio than none.

I read a bio if I'm on the fence about his looks. Honestly the best is a witty one liner. Long winded bios low key turn me off.

It's pretty easy to refute this as the data shows that men with bios get far more matches, and it seems to have a higher impact on whether women will match with a profile than men.

I used dating apps as a man during many years... I tried many things, various pictures, various bios, no bios... and my results are, the impact of the bio varies a lot.

I found that I did much better on OKCupid with a long bio.

On Bumble, I didn't get much matches with or without a bio... and several of my matches didn't read my bio

On Tinder, I had more matches with a bio, but once again, many women apparently didn't read it.

On another app only available in my country, I did much much better without a bio than with a bio.
