In most states, child support is based on income and number of nights spent with each parent. It can generally be revisited periodically by either parent. In my state, it can be revisited every 3 years, when a salary change of 15% happens, or when a child turns 18 and graduates from high school. In some states, child support continues until college is done. Also, a lot of divorce decrees specify an exchange of salary information is required periodically. We had to do it annually.

This is why I strongly advise young guys to never marry or have kids. There is too much information out there now about the perils of marriage. Wish this information was available when I was young.

There is no enforcement mechanism to track salary increase, let her go to court every 3 years and fight it out. Don't disclose anything about future money

My thought would be to have a business lawyer find a work around to protect it.
That’s what they do. Maybe Via a trust or create a legal business entity that you can control your payments.

Don’t think you’ll be able to put a limit on child support. It can be adjusted in my state anytime there’s a change in income of like 20% or every 3 years. Wait to do anything major with the business until the divorce the finalized. Mine says that everything from this day forth is ours etc. I got the house and then sold it for a nice profit and my lawyer said I could burn the money for all she’s concerned because she isn’t entitled to a dime.

That's normal. CS can be recalculated every couple of years and/or if one parent's income increases 10-15%. Every state is different, so look up the rules for yours.

When you calculate CS, be sure you are imputing her income if she's not working full-time.

You should definitely talk to a lawyer. If you started the company during your marriage, your wife might be entitled to half your stock—unless you can come to some kind of buyout agreement. Every time my stock vests, I end up splitting the community portion of the net with my ex, plus she gets a percentage of the separate gross, and it’s brutal.
