Hi all - our child started orthodontics a few months prior to divorce was legally completed. Otho doc was referred to ex-wife by ex-wife's friend — I had no say in the choice of doctor. Fortunately, the doc is good.

I provided ex-wife with cost estimate at time treatment began. I received no response.

We started a payment plan of about $200/mo. which I felt was very reasonable since each of us would be paying $100/mo.

Ex-wife never payed any (I paid $200/mo) and when we reached half of the balance paid off, I told her I was done with my half and she could take over payments. She refused saying she could not afford.

Decree says 50/50 on all unreimbursed medical expenses. I pay the premiums on all health/dental insurance via my work.

Child is towards end of treatment and Otho clinic wants their money.

Is my only recourse to consult lawyer about getting an order to pay? I can try asking once more but I am sure I will get either no response or that she "can't afford it."

Thoughts?
