Usually parents try to set their kids up with their own personal type. My mom did this when I was in college and it was a disaster.

As a girl who multiple moms tried to set me up with their sons during the more religious era of my life, this experience is both hurtful and humiliating for the girl involved. I always got excited and dressed my best for these things, doing my hair nicely, wearing the most beautiful dress I could find, etc etc and I was always gravely disappointed to either have the guy not show up at all or make small talk and then flake off away. None of these guys were “Chads” but nerdy religious guys and most weren’t white either.

So this kind of ended the “nice guys” era of my life. That plus the red pill kind of jaded me on what “nice guys” represent and how they are.

I was skinny at that time, cute, very friendly, KHV, timid, etc. the ideal woman that TRP sings sonnets about how they wanted. But these nice religious dudes did not want me. At all. In fact I became dysmorphic about my body.

Literally I found a nice “bad boy” “Chad” type and he’s obsessed with me and calls me a million times a day and does grand romantic gestures. He’s not really a bad boy he’s just a little bit hood. But anyway the way he treated me and his profound enthusiasm and respect and excitement for being with me was a complete 180 from these lackluster disinterested church guys. So now I am with an “alpha bad boy Chad”

I've had many people trying to set me up and only once I found the guy attractive. People don't set you up with those you find attractive, they set you up with the people they think you should like. In many occasions people just set you up with people just because they're single and trying their luck.

You are 31. You should let your parents know that your dating life is your business and that you'll let them know once you find someone.

My parents haven't ever really set me up, my mom has tried to sort of throw men my way and they're usually pretty good on paper - tall, attractive, well-educated, good jobs, good incomes, etc. They just aren't generally my type for other reasons (more like her type lmao). My sister has tried to lowball me like this but that's because of jealousy on her part and her own projections of her own insecurity (she was convinced for years that I looked like her, and she thinks very poorly of herself, lol we look nothing alike...). When she finally met a partner of mine, she suddenly completely changed her tune, probably because it popped her narcissistic reality/bubble and she realized we aren't alike and we do in fact attract very different men.

It was frustrating though, when I'd have to explain to her why the men she'd try to set me up with were just embarrassingly bad. I remember her once trying to set me up with a divorced man who wasn't even attractive and he seemed like he had a terrible reason for divorcing his ex wife (he sounded insanely rigid, probably a terrible personality too), and I was 25! That was beyond insulting.

What I recommend is just simply saying "no, thank you, I don't think we would get along". But knowing your family is religious makes sense - I find religious people think religiosity is the only important factor a lot of the time, so they won't consider you care less about that and care more about basically who the person is. Just go for people who are into.
