How is this even moral? So feminists are deemed too violent and/or dangerous on campus by the University that CAFE needs extra security to meet and so they charge CAFE the fee? Shouldn't they be charging the groups that are the ones causing the problems?

People can donate but I don't like that CAFE is waiting until after the event to do something about this horribly misguided requirement.

Double it. Pay $2000 up front, but stipulate that the laws of every single breach of the peace be enforced and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law., and that a surcharge of $30.00 for each citation be payable directly to CAFE.

It won't let me select a billing address that is inside the United States. It makes me list a Canadian Providence as a billing address, and being from the USA means that I can't donate, I suppose?

Hmmm...does anybody else get the impression that U of T would just like CAFE to "go away"?

Frank_n_Berry has a good point here...CAFE should consider hiring local police themselves for security for the event, instead of U of T campus police, if college regulations allow it. At the last event (Paul Nathanson, Katherine Young), the campus police did not seem to do a very good job of preventing disruptions, nor did they find the person who pulled the fire alarm.

I just sent an e-mail to CAFE with the following suggestions:

Ask U of T for an itemized invoice explaining why they are charging this amount and why specifically they are requiring security for this event.
Ask U of T if by paying this fee, they GUARANTEE there will be no disruptions to the event.
Have U of T security announce that although people may be free to protest the CAFE event, no protesters may come within 100 feet of the entrance of the event venue.
Make them state specifically that if any outside group disrupts the event and/or tampers with fire alarm systems, U of T will call the police, request that the disruptors (sic) be arrested, and that U of T will pursue civil charges against anyone who tampers with their fire alarm system.
Announce that any student, staff or professor who breaks U of T regulations and interferes with the CAFE will face disciplinary action.
Request a friendly meeting with the head of U of T Security to discuss the specifics of the security arrangements.

If U of T does a lousy job of security at this event even though CAFE paid the security fee, then in the future CAFE should just bypass campus security and arrange it with the local police on their own. The latter are more likely to do a better job.
