if the translation is correct she is talking about giving women the same rights as men, but women have the right to work on fishing boats. if anything she is talking about giving women a privileged position in the hiring process and to me that's not really asking for equality. laws shouldn't be made to compensate for inequalities.

The main question is will women actually apply for those jobs ? You can bitch and moan all you want but at the end of the day its out of your hands if women don't want such jobs.

The idea itself doesn't sound bad at all. Some of us (including me) do criticize feminists for wanting to enforce gender quotas in the cushy, higher paying jobs and not the more dangerous, dirty occupations.

However, I can easily imagine this leading to the male boat workers having to work harder to compensate for what the female workers can't (or won't) do, all while the female employees get paid for doing "dangerous work."

I have been on fishing boats, big and small and the jobs that have to be done are difficult.

For example, shoveling ice(for the cooling of fish), stacking the fish containers or getting the troll on board in rough sea are some of the more strength demanding tasks.
Men take shifts in doing these tasks and if there is a problem in rough sea the man standing next to you has to be able to act quickly with strength to prevent accidents or injuries.

Adding women to the crew would mean that men would increasingly have to do the most difficult and dangerous tasks which would lead to fatigue and exhaustion and increased the risk of accidents and injuries/death.

I don't see why anyone would want to work on a fishing boat. From what I see on deadliest catch it's hell. Working 20 hours a day in constant danger. Takes some really tough guys to do it.

Women with genetically weaker strength would make it even harder for them in general. It's one of the few cases where gender actually matters in an employee. Though I feel if there's a girl tough enough to work on it, an employer wouldn't have any reason not to hire them, unless of course the whole traditional-family thing.

Misleading title, she does not press for women to be forced to work on fishing boats at all! What she does effectively argue for is enforced remuneration for women being engaged in a supporting role to the fishing industry:

"We are trying to improve the situation in areas where it has been shown that women are an active part, an economically productive part, but this role is not recognised..."

Honestly, I would love to see these women lobbying for more women in the fishing industry try to fish on a vessel for a week.

There is a reason only men do it. It's a shit job, it's dangerous, its smelly and dirty and exhausting. I say if women want to be a part of the fishing industry, let's press gang some into service like a lot of the men were not too long ago and see how they hack it. See how long they will be bitching about equality legislation then.

This title is bullshit. The woman said nothing like that. She said she was arguing on principle, and the guy was a complete dickhead about it.

He started with asking a very reasonable question about whether her intentions were intellectual or legislative, she answered accordingly that her intentions are intellectual.

He ended up with a dumb joke comparing women working on a boat to men being mermaids.
