This is so true.

He said the way the boy disclosed to the principal underscored the way in which the abuse was perceived. By saying "you won't be very happy with me", Mr Clearwater said the boy appeared to believe he was the one who had acted wrongly.

And I feel really sad for the kid. Hopefully he'll get lots of counselling and be alright in time.

Present legislation stipulates the crime of rape applies only when men force sex. Both carry a maximum sentence of 20 years but only men can be charged with rape. In contrast, women who force an unwilling partner to have sex face charges of sexual violation.

They are definitely right that a woman can't be charged with rape, but both rape and unlawful sexual connection are under the heading of sexual violation. Here is the legislation:

Being charged with rape seems like it should have little meaning in the legal outcome of this case, but I'm so glad to hear they are consider revising the law. Hopefully Judith Collins is more than talk.

I really don't like how they tell children that they should feel very damaged after the fact. It is usually that which causes more harm than the actual activity.

The boy told them you aren't going to be happy with me, because he did something he wasn't supposed to do. He knew it was bad, but he most likely enjoyed it and kept going. But now we are telling him that he should be traumatized. The poor lad has enough on his plate.
