They will do a conflict of interest search and get back to you. There should be no charge for this. Just call around first.

Theres so many divorces sometimes its hard to find a lawyer....

You won't know until you talk to them. If by chance you interview the one your STBXW retained, they will tell you they are already representing her.

I took time to find someone I knew would do a good job for me depending on my situation. I asked around about her attorney and heard that she is one that goes on the offense and like to stir shit up, I also knew that my STBXW most likely would not settle before trial and come with accusations against me. So I knew I needed someone who had experience facing her attorney and is good at litigation. I ended up with one that calls me out on my bs if I let my emotions take over, and he has proven himself to be really good in court when she filed a protection order (I was anticipating this and knew I needed someone who knew how to handle these situations) against me. Don’t settle for the cheapest one!

Be careful my friend. By the way you’re asking this question, lawyers are going to prob you for how much money they can shake out of you, and then build a take-down defense story that never plays out the way its sold. Familiarize yourself with the divorce process in your state. Get familiar with what you think is going to apply to your case in terms of assets, money, visitation, and any other things that only you would know. Be careful with the attorneys make sure you do a good due diligence, but always remember, no matter how good the story is, always remind yourself that the lawyer is not your friend he is there to get you emotionally invested, wear you down and then at the end close the deal once he’s dried up the pool with you.
