So, in general what makes most sense to give up (from men's perspective) during settlement agreement? Also considering current economy into account, what makes the most sense to keep or let go and what have u done that has worked in ur favor?

Some relevant details for my case below.

  • State - MA
  • Married 15.5 years
  • 2 kids - 10 and 12.
  • I make 4 times as much as my stbxw.
  • I pay mortgage at 3%, so its a no brainer to keep the house???
  • Assuming i can get 50 50 custody.
  • 175k in 401k.
  • 75k in Stocks + cash.

Does it make sense to give up 401k to keep the house + pay off her alimony (lump sum).

Or does it make sense to pay alimony monthly and keep 401k? And figure out a 10 year plan to pay off her equity in the house?

Anything else that I should be thinking about?

Will attorneys be able to help me come to a sensible financial decision for me? Or should I talk to a financial advisor of some sort?
