I mean, yes. But also not exclusively. I was talking about it the other day on this sub. If female on male violence is played for laughs, so is the harassment of female characters. I can stand it, as both genders have it bad. What I can stand are the double standards of western productions, which pretty much protect female characters but throw male ones to the wolves for comedy, with things like characters being kicked in the balls. Also, animes still make plenty of strong male characters, as opposed to the dumbification of male characters in favor of female Mary Sues in the West.

I don’t watch much anime but this is an issue that is portrayed on all media, watch any sitcom and the dad is portrayed as stupid while the mom fixes all his mistakes, or how women often hit men in movies and tv and it’s ok somehow

You are applying western ideals to Japanese culture which is so much different.

Japan has severe issues on both sides i.e Men are expected to be work mules till they die and women are expected to marry a successful man that takes care of them or become solitary work mules till they die. As result, both become solitary work mules till they die which has decreased the birth rate country wide.

They also have high suicide rates due to the mentioned above.

Anime as it is now its aimed as a way of escapism and promoting intimate relationships on their largely socially conservative population.

This post is really grasping at straws. Anime is one of the few media where male-on-female violence isn't taboo, and most points come across as overly emphasizing SoL and isekai genres (ironic, since one of the most popular isekai has a meme template vouching for true equality). Also no mention of how many shounen anime have tons of chicks fall for the male protagonist and go into soft-harem mode.

Dare I say it: you should watch more anime. Many popular ones reverse and solidify most power dynamics to the point of heavily favoring the male protagonist, and has been a complaint by feminist weebs since forever. Japan just doesn't care about western feelings trying to be offended by everything.

Not entirely true, MCs tend to be blank boring slates for the sake of immersion and to more easily place yourself in there. That's only on the more generic types. In any case most genres of anime are mostly male power fantasies and the reason they remain bland is because they do not want to make romance interest progress at all, depending on the genre of anime of course.

How you notice anime isn't anti male? Because they do a lot of tropes that surround women as well, so in the end it evens out really. You are correct in your observations, i just want to point out a different interpretation of it.

It's one of the benefits of having japan depending on its own market they hardly cater to whatever the rest of the world is up to.

There's generally violence towards whoever is dumb, sexes are interchangeable you can find evidence of both situations.

Harems have a bland male surrounded by sexy one dimensional female characters, and they rely on the male being a wimp so they never have to deal with things like sex or romantic developments

I feel like the first two examples were not for the purpose of shitting on men, but actually showing a satirical and absurd version of themale perspective in that we can’t catch a break without accusations of perverse intentions, and self-flattering over-reactions from women. Like I have never seen an anime that has a scene like this, that actually feels like they are saying the girl is in the right, usually it is more implied that the girl is in fact overreacting. Like the first example of the woman killing the man and resurrecting him, that’s obviously making by fun of female overreactions more than it is making fun of violence against men.

The thing that I don't like in both anime and manga is where a character says basically "your a man aren't you? Men don't moan!" or a variation of that.

Sort of, it is very tropey, usually its excused because the guy is super powered or something. Not a justification, but thats usually how its done.

Thats things like Love Hina, which is pretty lame, the follow up the executives wanted the writer to do is way better, it starts off seemingly the same way(like the suits wanted) but the transitions to an awesome shonen style thing with magic and magitek and shit.

There was one anime i watched, don't remember the name, Where the protag, after he and a girl get covered in slime go toward a bath, but she stops him going in first, claiming 'ladies first', he responds with: " I yearn for true gender equality. I have no patience for one who talks about female privilege when it suits them, and then complains about someone "not being a man" when it's convenient. "

They then fight over who gets to go in first, don't remember who wins, but i found that much funnier.

Depends on the anime, for instance JoJo has undertones of MGTOW flavor in some parts, focusing more on strong platonic male relationships than women. As with The Lord of the Rings, this commonly gets the reputation for being "gay" simply because most people can't explain close male friendships otherwise.

Also, one reason central male characters are often blank slates its so that the intended male reader can project himself onto them.

It's anti male in a conservative sort of way, not anti male in the sense of hating men that much of western media is.

The question of who wants anime such a rabbit hole that I am not going to even try to go down it. But most of the anti male things in anime are in anime aimed at men and boys. Most anime aimed at women and girls that I have seen has far less of it.

I feel like you're just watching shitty animes. Do you just hop on randomanime.org and go to town or something? Steins Gate and many other anime have interesting protagonists and no female on male violence to speak of. It heavily depends on the genre, but most ecchi and comedy anime tend to have that anti-male part added in for fun. It's fun for men to get hit apparently, even if it's a low blow. Don't judge all anime on something that isn't in all of them.

You watch some generic ass anime bro. I agree some anime make "comedy" scenes with female on male violence but it's in no way something that's seen as normal or evening promoting that behaviour. Comedy shows like gintama has lots of scenes where a character named otae punches and kicks male characters that's more of her character trait than a female character trait. Because it also shows male on female violence for comedy. Watch gintama. It's 10/10

I've noticed some things too, and I've hardly ever watched anime. They weren't this bad, but still.

Anime and cartoons in general don't just distort but amplify the relational dynamics between people in real world. Points 1 and 2 have obvious parallels to real life. Point 3 is more subtle. Perhaps its the popular negative perception of the male body (bland/disgusting compared to female body) being projected onto their character traits.

1 & 2 are pretty much the same thing, violence against men is more acceptable. I don't think that is in any way unique to anime. It's a common theme in all genres of media and has been for decades.

RE. 3. Harem animes. Don't really need to say more, but I will. This sort of thing does cater to certain audiences, as does harems, and so long as there is variety and the trope isn't directly harmful (like permissive violence against men is) I don't take much issue with it.

Women don’t even like these tropes anyway

If it wasn't liked and in demand it wouldn't exist. Careful with the generalizations btw.
