This study was released quite recently in 2022, containing data up to 21. It contains the state of marriage, across the population, and a few other interesting stats.

Note: a marriage rate is the number of women who marry at of 1000 unmarried women.

  • The percentage (rate) of married people has dropped continuously since 1970. There was a brief period from 2009-2014 where marriage rates began to rise again, but in 2015, it turned back toward decreasing.
  • The rate of decrease in marriages from 2015 to 2021 was the fastest decrease in the last 50 years.
  • There is a significant gap in marriages rates by state. Utah and Alaska have the highest marriage rates, at 48.8 and 47.0, respectively. New York, California, and Connecticut have between 21 and 24. Colorado is the 4th highest marriage rate, at 39.9.
