Why is it more and more men do not want to be chivalrous, obliging and helpful anymore? What is happening?

Currently in American culture the only person looking out for a man is that man. No one else. A woman would never risk her life for me. If I try to help a woman, whether it be with heavy luggage or her being victimized in a very violent crime, I risk being labeled the bad guy in some way too because people can try to twist things to their own benefit. I offer to help lift something heavy and I’m a sexist denying her the ability to help herself, but if I don’t I’m an asshole. If I stop a violent crime I’m now an excellent example of how inherently monstrous men are but if I don’t I am an apathetic woman hater.

Logically speaking the best thing I can do is choose the option that is the least likely to bring me physical harm. Can’t hurt my back if I never bother to pick up heavy luggage or avoid the egregious assault.

I really like y'all way of thinking and seeing the situation(s) that men find themselves nowadays. It's no longer safe for us to put ourselves in harms way for women when they themselves label themselves as "independent strong women" it's time for them to fend for themselves...you go girl power!!!

Ultimately this is a problem that Women themselves have created..
For the past couple of decades women have been 'empowered' and have used that empowerment to shit on men (Figuratively).

It doesn't help that our current society has been making sweeping generalizations about men like how (All) men are rapists etc..

Or how when men WERE being chivalrous by holding doors open or offering to help women with heavy burdens they were called out as misogynistic pieces of shit who think that women are so weak they can't open doors or carry things..

So now men have learned behavior of not bothering.

As far as men stepping in when a woman is harassed. Same thing..
Many men have seen what happens when another random man intervenes. Ranging from that man getting injured by the either the abuser in question or even the woman turning on him and attacking him.

Some men have even been charged as accessories to the abuse etc..

So, as a man.. what benefit do i get from stepping in? The answer is: NOTHING
As a man what do I stand to lose if I step in? My health, Life, or I risk getting arrested.

Ergo.. the best play is to do nothing or, at the very least call the police and let them deal with it.

There’s a number of experiments posted on YouTube where a women are harassed by men and men harassed by women to see how bystanders react. Typically, other men are quick to intervene to help the woman. In one instance of a woman beating a man, bystanders cheered her on.

So the reality is men are much more likely to come to a woman’s aid than the aid of another man, yet these women complain.

In the USA, there was a stretch where people were suing and winning when they were injured and a bystander tried to help them to the best of their ability but did not do something according to medical best practices. So people stopped helping out of a fear of being sued.

In response, Good Samaritan laws were passed barring people from suing people trying to help. It makes sense to not expect ever to have the level of training as a medical doctor or a first responder such as a firefighter.

Police get a lot of training on de-escalating and how to handle situations, appropriate use of force, etc. Most people don’t get that but police here get more latitude than the public instead of the opposite like medical situations so most people have learned to just not get involved. If you want to change things, you first need something similar to the Good Samaritan laws that were made to protect people in medical injury situations.

My current girlfriend explicitly told me, “I don’t need a man for anything”. So I said Ok.

Today a small garter snake crawled into her apartment. Apparently she screamed and ran out of the room. Her teenage son collected the dogs but didn’t help get the snake out. So called housing to get a maintenance “man” to remove the harmless snake. #truestory.

It’s a difficult situation. As man you know that no woman will help you when you are attacked or in trouble, especially not younger women. Helping a woman that is being attacked may result in bodily harm and you can be lucky if you get a thank you afterwards. I personally would probably step in and help most of the times just because I don’t want those thugs to have their way, the next victim could be a woman I care about.

I don't think it's just women, but it's being noticed there more.

People are less inclined to get involved these days. You're way more likely to see someone start recording with their phone that actually step into a physical confrontation.

People also fight less these days. Maybe with older generations fighting was normalized, but it's far more stigmatized today. Which means people are less confident in their ability to throw a punch and when you combine that with others being more likely to carry a handgun getting physically involved is too big of a risk.

If I see people smoking or acting up on a train I'm not going to say anything. I might be a bigger guy, but it's not worth a crazy homeless guy shanking me because I told him to stop what he was doing.

Perhaps if men were not seen by American women as adversaries. In this current time, men do not know what women want these days, how women would like to be treated and what next will offend and insult? Women's behavior has changed so much men no longer trust women. So men go their own way or seek loving partners from other countries no infected by the current culture. It's another of those things that many men would like to go back to how it was although I don't know why? Just treat everyone equally. If you were to help a woman, you should be willing to help a man too. Don't help out or risk your well being just because of her gender. Chivalry is bullshit and always was.

If you are going to be unthankful and cruel to men, why the everliving fuck would they go out of their way to help you or be nice to you?

You create a regulatory environment where everything is automatically men's fault, you push a narrative of "believe all women," you create a situation where due process is circumvented and accusations are public and believed over court rulings, and men are going to respond. We respond by shutting down, being quiet, keeping our head down, staying away from women who may be threats, but most notably by NOT getting involved, NOT helping, staying OUT of community involvement situations, keeping away from women socially (while not openly expressing why we are doing so), and there you go.

For example, I would not go with one of the women or even one of the other guys and one of the women. I would totally go to a work lunch with either one or two guys from my work team OR the entire team. I'd suddenly and conveniently have an errand that requires me to run down to the post office on my lunchtime or a private phone call with family that needs to be handled. When I can't get around it, I invite the rest of the team to lunch.
