For me the number one is that they do what they say they’re going to do. If they tell you they’re going to call, they call. If they set up a date, they follow through. Whatever it is, you feel they are reliable and their actions match their words.

The most important to me were confidence, positive communication, integrity, and being a long-term thinker.

I wanted my man to be confident in his life and the decisions he made. I didn’t want to “mother” him or feel like I was responsible for telling him whether it was okay to do something or to feel a certain way. That specifically makes me feel masculine and it drains my energy quickly.

Communication is the general umbrella for me that includes empathy, kindness, and how he chooses to exercise it.

Integrity is a very obvious one; I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t share a mutual moral system.

And long-term thinking! It tells me a lot of about the kind of person he is, what he wants out of life, and his problem-solving skills.

I don't think that building a checklist of abstract values that sound good but don't reflect your own values or behaviour or attraction triggers helps you in any way to find a good man. The reason this is, is because you'll find someone "good on paper" but that does nothing for you whatsoever. I've said as much in a previous post, and outlined a practical way to compile a list that actually worked for me.

I'm not a woman but what I look for in a high caliber friendship I think is similar to what someone should look for in a partner.

Willingness to listen even when you're discussing something off color.

Open mindedness. That kind of works with my first suggestion.

How devout they are to the image of how they want to live life. Not to say they are like a radicalized person. But that they are able to channel energy toward the image they want to live within in a structured responsible manner. Also that they are willing to veer away from this image once it no longer is suitable.

How warm and incendiary their vibration is.

I’m surprised this one hasn’t been said yet: how he treats his mom. Absent some mitigating factor, such as abuse, or parental abandonment, how he will treat you in the future is reflected in his relationship with his mom and how he treats her.

Someone who accepts responsibility, and fixes his mistakes. I couldn't live with someone who couldn't accept fault when we're reconciling or something.

But part of why I find this attractive is because I'm very self-critical. I don't think I'd work with someone who wasn't the same way.

I agree with you on those. Some green flags I would look out for are marriage-minded, family-oriented, conservative values, provider mindset, hardworking, handy, assertive, responsible, takes accountability, understanding, good communicator, good at making decisions, financially literate, no bad habits, problem-solving skills, kind, caring, good with animals and kids, has survival skills, good relationship with his parents.

perseverance, stoicism, empathy.

perseverance is something i really admire my boyfriend for. he knows he can do whatever he puts his mind to. it goes hand in hand with confidence in ability. stoicism allows for discussion of feelings and attitudes without fighting, it allows you both to be calm and level headed even when discussing emotional subjects. empathy is important to be sure he can understand you, and understand your views and why things may make you upset, which in turn allows for solutions or at least healthy discussions on the topic.
