Isn’t it the same for men? I wouldn’t date a woman who was just nice and trying to please me. I like that my partner has lots of character and interests beside me.

At least for me, this is very wrong. Life is rough; it can take a life-changing turn in an instant, and someone's world can be turned upside down, and it's the person that matters. You can have everything going for you, and another driver runs a red light, and that all goes away, and all that's left behind is the person. People age, get sick, lose their jobs, lose family members and friends.

Which book and who wrote it? If you're going to use it as a source, people need to be able to scrutinise it. Quotes don't mean anything because we all have different interpretations and the quote you've used has a million rebuttals.

I think someone’s “world” is a normal way to view a person.

Family and friends, where they live, their lifestyle, their views, their plans for the future, their daily routine, their hobbies, their likes and dislikes.

All of these things contribute to our opinion of someone and constitutes their “world”.

If these things don’t align with what she’s looking for from a partner then she wouldn’t carry on seeing that person. Why is that a bad thing?

Women (actually just a large % of women) see both the man and his "world." It's not an either or. And they are highly integrated. A guy who has ambition and has a supporting family is going to be incredibly affected by those things in how he is as a person.

Instead of thinking about what women want and getting guys to fit that, we should be focused differently

Here's the real interesting question in this subject:

Why are there so many men who ignore a woman's "world" and even her personality entirely? I'm not even talking about dudes who are just thinking of sex objects. There's a legion of (hetro) men who desperately want a romantic relationship, but also only really see women in the most shallow terms.

That's not the reason why nice guys are despised by women. Being nice is not the same as being good. Nice guys see their relationship in a transactional way. They feel entitled to someone's body, because idk. they paid for a bowl of pasta. Altruism is attractive. Being authentic. This is what they lack.

That other part about seeing worlds seems like an over-intellectualized nonsense. We like being around interesting people. Yeah, was this supposed to be revealing?

If he has no friends and doesn't go out and enjoy things in the world, we won't be compatible. No matter what other qualities he has. I don't despise him, I'm just not choosing him as a life partner.

Despise is a strong word and could be untrue. Just because women don't find someone attractive enough to be a partner doesn't mean she despises that person.

A man who doesn't have a "world" can be uninteresting, or he could be someone so starved of companionship and emotional support that it will be difficult for one woman to fulfill these needs.

Someone’s “world” — their friends, family, hobbies, job, experiences, aspirations, and more — is a huge part of who they are.

I love my partner because he’s caring, considerate, loyal, and so fuckin smart. Those qualities are why he’s got great friends, a career he loves, and close family. I love those things about him too.

You can’t just separate a person from the “world” they inhabit.

According to reality, this is false.

If an author starts a statement with "women do X" or "men like Y", then I would not read anything from that author.

Note that a major component of this “world” is someone’s inner world. A person who has wisdom, experience, imagination, humor is attractive — man or woman.

I find this quote to be incredibly problematic and perpetuates harmful gender stereotypes. Women are not just interested in a man's world, they are also interested in the man himself. It's simplistic and dismissive to suggest that women only care about a man's social circle and financial stability.

Moreover, the idea that women only want a man to be himself is true to an extent, but it can also be taken to an extreme where men become complacent and refuse to grow or change. Women want a partner who is confident, self-aware, and willing to work on themselves.

The quote also implies that women are shallow and only care about superficial aspects of a man's life. This is not the case, and it's important to recognize that women are complex individuals with their own interests, values, and priorities.

It's just dumb that it's gendered.

I think this is really true for men, women, cis, trans, het and homo, and everything in between.

Also the word "despised" comes out of no where and makes the whole thing seem very juvenile. Good discussion starter though. Too bad so many downvoted rather than being like "huh, interesting idea."

There is some truth to it. Both sexes have a tendency to build attraction based on someone’s social setup. The bell-curve distributions on this for women vs. men would be statistically significantly different though.

A significant minority of women are primarily attracted based on appearance though.
