I went to a coffee place today. I sat down next to this one random girl, because there was an open table, mostly (she wasn't all that). So then a bit later, three of her friends come in, all three of them quite cute. I'm sitting there kind of weirded out to be honest, since suddenly I'm essentially sitting at a table with 4 girls. I tried saying a few things, but my mind kept getting ahead of me and coming up with random reasons not to say anything: "They're too young!" "They're sorority airheads!" blah blah etc, voice of AFC.

I managed to fire off a couple quiet comments, and a couple of times I caught the same girl looking at me. IOIs I guess.

So then it gets weird. One of the girls, for some unknown reason, blew that little paper wrapper thing from her straw right at me. Apparently it was an accident because she started laughing, as did the other three.

So here I am, a guy who probably has 15 years on these girls, at least, and some stupid schoolyard prank goes off, and I find myself turning red and not saying anything.

Obviously this is a dumb story. But here's what I'd like to discuss: in the moment, the only emotion that I was feeling was that I was an idiot and I was so flustered with the weirdness and suddenness of the situation that I couldn't even begin to think of something to say. So I just sat there and kept reading. I mean like, this was the definition of DLV'ing.

Whatever, and all that. At least I can learn from my cluelessness. But I'm curious to know what other people might have said in that situation. Also, how do you deal in general when you get blown out? Just walk away? I might as well learn now.
