A wise man would never sleep in a hotel room alone with a woman that isn’t family/wife. Even if he’s single, it’s unwise due to the possibility of false accusations and/or other forms of drama.

If you have to tell a man not to do this, he’s foolish. You shouldn’t trust his judgment, especially as a leader/captain.

I don't like the word "let" because it is controlling. If he did it and you found it unacceptable you leave. Leaving the relationship is not controlling but it does require a strong will and courage.

Depending on the ages of everyone, there may be some economic realities at play.

Where were they headed?

I know for comic-cons and the like everyone jams into as many rooms as possible.

In my early start up days, we didn’t have the luxury of splitting rooms. (From a RP perspective, I think drawing a hard line on something like this that could have major $$$ benefit for the family down the line is harmful, which is why I would disagree with anyone who would say it’s a 100% no, no matter what)

Now, if they’re both going on a like a beach trip or something together, that’s cause for concern.

Either way, way too little detail to truly assess from a RP perspective.

No, even if you really trust someone, it shows poor judgement on their part. I remember with my ex, he mentioned once that he was the only man at a sleepover with a bunch of female coworkers. This was before we were dating, but I remember finding it very weird. I’m not sure even as a woman that I’d be comfortable having a sleepover with other female colleagues, so IMO, it showed a lack of professionalism and poor judgement on his part. There’s just a lot that can happen when you have people hanging out overnight in close quarters, especially when alcohol might be involved. False accusations are absolutely not outside the realm of possibility as well. Sorry to be so critical but he was really, really desperate for friendship and to feel included in every situation, and it was a red flag that eventually ended our relationship. I think it’s good to have certain boundaries between genders, especially when someone is taken.

I don't see a problem with separate beds in the same hotel room. We are adults, we have clothes on, we can behave.

There is really no point in spending the cost of a extra room in order to travel together or attend a event.

Full text: I was wondering opinions on this, I'm not seeing anyone currently, but this caused a big fight with a previous partner. I told him I wasn't comfortable with it, he said I was being controlling. Next time I'll seek out someone I'm more on the same page with, since I'm fine not doing this with male friends. It’s a clash of values. You don’t see this as being accuse he does. He values his core values more than yours and is this something you’re willing to put up with another year. It’s not about being controlling but that’s his perception. When you’re in a relationship the pot is to bring two opposing values together to compromise and that’s not happening here. Besides, he’s testing you to see if you will compromise yours and if you do, get ready to do it every time there’s conflict.

That’s an absolutely reasonable boundary. I would never share a hotel room with a man who wasn’t my husband, or a close family member.

Some airlines don’t even put their pilots and flight attendants in the same hotels, to avoid anything inappropriate.

I personally have no issue with that. I'm not jealous or paranoid. If I'm in a relationship I give 100% trust and expect it back unless there is a reason I should not. I date an adult male who has agency.

You can't prevent cheating by being controlling anyway. A man who wants to cheat will.

Honestly I think it depends on the context. If there is a good reason why, I might not mind but it has to be a DAMN good reason.
