New men’s shelter in Calgary - help us name it

Any thoughts on naming it in tribute to Earl Silverman? If you're not familiar with him, he fled from domestic abuse at the hands of his wife, but unfortunately he only received further abuse at the hands of an adversarial and man-hating system once he sought assistance. In Earl's own words:

"When I went into the community looking for some support services, I couldn’t find any. There were a lot for women, and the only programs for men were for anger management. As a victim, I was re-victimized by having these services telling me that I wasn’t a victim, but I was a perpetrator."

Earl decided to try and start his own shelter, but after receiving no government funding and essentially going broke in the process, he ended up tragically committing suicide. Including his name somewhere, or coming up with something else to remember his story and honour his life would be nice to have.

That's great to hear, congratulations. These come to mind:

The Calgary Centre for Support of Men and Children
The Calgary Centre for Support of Abused Men and Children
The Calgary Centre for Male and Child Victims of Domestic Violence

These are not really creative as much as they are straightforward. My rationale is that it'll be easier for victims to find the centre with a Google search if you keep it simple and direct. Good luck.

EDIT: On second thought, I’d replace “centre” with “shelter” and shorten a bit (Calgary Shelter for Men and Children, Calgary Shelter for Abused Men and Children, etc)

If it were up to me, I'd be trying to figure out a good way to include "children", "kids", or similar in the name of the organization without it getting so long people just refer to it as an acronym. The simple reason would be to try to head off any feminist protests in front of it by making them look bad on the news and in the eye of the public if they did.

"Kid's & Men's Shelter" or something like that. Not very catchy or creative, but short and hits the goal while still being descriptive enough for people to know its a shelter.

I've found searching for men's domestic violence services online gives bad results. Such as lots of women's shelters or stopping violence programs.

I suggest you name the shelter as obviously as possible to maximise search engine results.

For example, Calgary Men's Domestic Violence Shelter for Men.

I'm going to be honest as a group we don't need shelters on average we are stronger and more fit in defending ourselves. What we need are things that are more specialized towards men's unique issues not emulating what women are doing. I like the support for single-fathers though that's good and the support for young men but I don't think shelters should be our #1 priority.
