when any of you is saying something significant / emotional / emphatic / funny / etc. make a point of watching other people talk irl or movies and see when they touch.

another point of view would be that there is something called breaking the touch barrier. you don't touch anyone, but people you get closer to, it's ok to touch basically whenever. not everyone is a touchy feely kind of person and people have boundaries (including you, why not?). you may have noticed that when some people touch you, it feels good, others it feels cringe. if you touch someone and they cringe, that was a bad touch and it's good to acknowledge jokingly and apologise.

there are lots of opportunities to break the touch barrier: when you're walking together and there is a tighter space, people passing by, etc, when you're taking a photo together, adjusting their clothing or picking up a stray hair or lint from their clothes, when they laugh or when you laugh, when you're showing them something or they're showing you something, when you're offering emotional support or fatherly advice lol, when you want to make sure they don't step in something :)) when you're reading their palm, if you tell them about your latest hand cream and invite them to check out how smooth your skin is , etc.

also, it's perfectly fine to go in for the touch and stop at their personal space bubble without actually touching their body. you just touch the imaginary personal space bubble. this shows you respect their personal space and makes it likely that they will want to touch you in return.

there is a dance style called contact improvisation, it's all about touching, maybe you could check it out for reference or even join a class. in general dance classes help a lot in this particular aspect (and others as well).

another thing that could help is to get used to touching your own body naturally and not in a creepy way. sometimes parts of your body want to be touched and in time you will get a sense of when and where bodies around you want to be touched.

Went on a date on Monday night with a girl that I met on the Latin dance scene. This was our first date.

I was very conscious of the physical connection:

Hugged her when we met
Took her hand and led her to the bar at the taco place
Touched her throughout the meal, including resting my hand on her leg while talking
Offered my arm, she took it, and we walked arm in arm from taco place to my car to get my bag
Held her hand when I went from my car to Latin club
While we sat on the couches, I put my hand on her back, on her butt (lightly), gently put my fingers just under her shirt on her back (touching her skin)
While we were sitting on the couches off of the dance floor, I rested my hand on her upper leg while we talked
Touched her in a way I wouldn't touch other follows while dancing sensual bachata... i.e., guided her hip rolls with my hands instead of just signaling with a tap
Rested my hand on her back while standing at the bar

She was touching me in various ways throughout the evening, as well

None of this comes off as creepy if you
(a) assume attraction
(b) are confident
(c) read her body language

There have been dates with other girls where some of the initial physical touch was met with coldness or obvious discomfort. I won't escalate the intimacy of the touch after that. If I get a sense she's warming up, then I'll touch again, but very tame.

This isn't a "strategy" on my part. This is not calculated. I do like connection and physical connection. I don't get the sense that this is coming across as "needy" or "try hard." It's just something I do naturally, even when initiating a conversation with a woman that I don't know.

For example.... I was at my favorite coffee shop this past Sunday and noticed a young lady with these really bright red dress shoes. I thought she was cute and while she was waiting for her coffee order, she was sort of dancing to the music that was playing in the place (they always play really great music, has a dance vibe almost).

I walked over to her and commented on her shoes and said something about clicking her heels three times and going back to Kansas. She laughed at that and I reached out and just gently touched her forearm. By the end of the conversation, she was giving me touches on my arms as well.

She was from out of town and only visiting for Xmas, slightly bummed because she had a great personality and was very friendly.

You can't wait for "natural" things to happen, maybe it will never happen but you can create opportunities to touch the other person.

For example, if she says something funny, you can give her a light slap on the arm, that looks pretty natural, and from there you can do other things like: "Wow, you're strong. (even if she is weak as a feather). Are you lifting dumbells? - Grab her biceps - "you're preparing for the Olympics... " now bend her arm as a reason to check her biceps and then "watch how strong I am" .... put her hand on your abs while telling her: "once I lose the fat from here I'm 6 packs, only steel - do you want to see my steel?" now grab your phone from your pocket and show it to her.... it's a series of little things (a kind of routine) that if you're playful works pretty well and you touched her enough so next time you touch her she won't think: "this guy is a weirdo". See other examples:

Grab her hand as a reason to see her ring/bracelet.
As you walk side by side, tell her to stop for a second and put your palms on her shoulder to make her move a step to the left or right so you can see something on the wall behind her.
Put your arm around her neck while saying "hey come closer, I want to tell you a secret"... "I'm thirsty, I need a beer/coffee/smoothie" (a "trick" is to gently push her away after you tell her the secret, to show her that it was not an intentional gesture)
When you are saying something, you can get her attention by casually touching her arm/elbow for a second while saying, "Hey, I want to tell you something ...." or "hey, I know a joke, listen...."
If you are playful, you can touch them as part of a game like "let's see who has the biggest palm" or who has the longer index finger... things like that.

Actually touching her is just a reason to get closer to her, because she has to get used with your presence before you can move forward.

It's all about being smooth. If you're smooth with it, then you can do it pretty much any time. Getting smooth is just about being super confident with it. So like if she gives you a weird look like why are you touching me you have zero reaction except to remove the hand to respect her boundaries and act like it never happened.

If your laughing together it’s an opportunity to touch her because laughing being a knee jerk reaction you can tie the physical movement to it harmlessly (leaning into side, backhand or hold onto arm or knee mid laugh) depends on how funny also

if she makes a joke on you and you’re close make a light arm bump or something as a “get back reaction”.

If you're completely new to this, it's easiest to find such touch opportunities by watching a romantic movie in fast-forward. Stop the movie when they touch, see what made them touch, fast-forward again. It can be jokes, laughter, supporting each other, teasing each other, many things.
