There's no rule against referrals of lawyers, only advertising (direct or indirect) of any goods or services. However, use caution when acting on a referral and always use your own judgment.

This is all great advice. I plan to meet at least 3 before choosing. Meeting all in my area wouldn’t be possible as I’m in LA—too many divorce lawyers. I’m hearing a whole range of quotes per hour. From $200-$800. But at the end of the day the cost still depends on how quick they can get it done. I get what was said about not letting an attorney take all my money. I plan to be frugal with how I spend my time but being my attorney, I’d have to disclose my income and assets so can’t really hide that, right? I mean, they know all the cards.

Take a day off work and go down to the courthouse and watch them at work, if you see one clearly with their S together get a card from them. Also tends to weed out the ones that are afraid of a courtroom and will try to get you to take a bad deal.

Any attorney you meet with will be automatically ineligible to represent your wife. Meet with every attorney within 100 miles 😆🤔🤣

Stick to an attorney that only cares about the meat and potatoes of a divorce. That is money and child custody.

One that tells you what you don’t want to hear. One that is honest about the laws in your state.

Don’t waste your money telling your attorney your life’s story about how you were wronged. The lawyer will care because they can bill for those hours. The courts won’t care one iota.

Talk to at least 6 lawyers before deciding. Some have free consultations, others charge a small fee. Pay the fees. Talk to friends and family. Who did they use and were they satisfied? Ask the lawyers themselves how they would choose a lawyer for their own divorce. Interview them like it’s a job you are hiring for.

Rule 1

Do not trust your attorney - specially if you have money

1st thing they do is to evaluate how much money they can extract from you, by delaying your case, sending you 100 emails and charging. This is known process how they make money.

You are there source of Income.

2nd - Try to AVOID firms: go with single lawyers. Firms are most corrupt they make sure they Suck your blood.

atleast single lawyers they have less overhead

set your expectations clearly with them and budget

don't show you have money.

Remember: If the lawyers makes 500 dollar from you even if it means you loose 100K and your life they will do it

I have alot of access to attorneys and I still have a hard time picking. I know the best but I can't afford and don't necessarily need the best. I just want someone who can get the job done. The faster they settle it the cheaper it will be. Nothing worse then listening to attys waste clients money by arguing like little kids.

I talked to friends who'd been divorced recently and then compared what they said to reviews online.

Narrowed it down to two ladies who had great records working with men and that's how I chose.
