You don't really know.

That's the cold hard truth. You can use best guess or judgement. Some men will take a whole relationship for months and then just drop things when they think "better" has come. And this is years of being half in half out and performing as a boyfriend.

I would say consistency, time and effort. There's really no foolproof method though because these can be faked too.

No way of knowing. I once had a man tell me he loves me, invited me to fancy dates to meet his friends and colleagues. Months later he ghosted me for a younger model. He tried getting back with me 2 months later after it didn't work out with the other woman and admitted the whole thing.

If he takes an interest in my hobbies, goals, and desires by asking questions. If he respects my boundaries about intimacy and does not try to push or coerce me into something. If he makes time for me and showcases that I am a priority for him.

He wants to spend most of his free time with me, he calls and texts when we can't be together, he brings me around his friends and family and starts making near-future plans that involve me.

It really hasn't been an issue. We talk. I look at his body language. I look at how engaged he is in the conversation (though a lot of this is also about whether I'm interested in him). Oh, and if he sends mixed signals or plays games, I drop him like a rock. (But that's been rare.)

Mostly commitment hasn't been the issue, behavior once we've settled into the relationship has been the issue. (If there were issues.)

Before sex? Absolutely no way to tell. I had guys hard pursue and then ghost.

In my personal experience, after sex, every single guy that turned into a relationship, either st or lt, wanted to see me, have sex with me, and spend every free second with me pretty much from the beginning.

The “what are we, exclusive?” conversation never happened in my relationships. Within weeks we were spending so much time together there’s no way either of us had time to see anyone else.

Specifically? They stay the night, or even the entire weekend, they make you to breakfast, plan the next date upon parting, you become the defacto date to everything. Weekend plans together are assumed.

My husband had something planned with his nephews the day after our first hookup and tried to get me to come along. I declined, but knew right then he was gonna be my husband.

I'm not comfortable with sex unless I know someone well, which would be past the point where someone who's just in it for sex would've given up.

Having actually interesting conversations and them wanting to spend time with me even when we're not doing anything physical would also indicate they're interested in a relationship in the early stages.

They ask you out. They want to spend time with you (no Netflix and chill) They remember the thing you say, your preferences. They wait till you are ready for sex. They try to teach you things that may be useful to you. They try to make your life easier.
