So, bit of backstory. My wife and I have been married for 4 years and now have a 9 month old. I always new that after having a baby, it can take some time for the weight to fall off, no big deal right? She had never been super fit, but in ok shape. Well, after having the baby, she kind of let things go. Everything was an excuse... Why can't you help me with this, there's an excuse. Why can't you call the doctor to make an appointment for yourself, there's an excuse. Why don't you get back into a hobby, there's an excuse. You get the picture.

Well, after about 3 months off of work, then 2 months at work, she decided to quit her job and take care of the house and baby. Although I didn't particularly support it 100%, it's actually worked out really well because I travel a lot for work and now I can focus on bringing in money. Well, for the past 4 months or so she's been off of work, and part of the agreement of her not working was that she was going to get in really good shape, like trophy wife status. Well, here we are and she has maybe lost 2 - 3 pounds surrounded by excused, mainly how difficult our baby is (in all fairness, our baby was extremely difficult in the beginning). Well, yesterday I took care of the baby for about 5 hours and got tons done including cleaning the house, making lunch, keeping the baby happy, and managed to get 40 minutes on the squat rack. In addition, she constantly complains about being tired, so she finally got to the doctor on Friday after months of complaining (waiting for the results).

Well, she does a good job of keeping the house clean, but the weight thing is really bugging me. Over the past 4 months, I've done nothing but lead by example by eating healthy, lifting regularly, dropping subtle hints like turning down a beer, etc. Well today at lunch, everything was going well and she wanted desert. I initially told her no, but she kept persisting. In hindsight, I really screwed up by allowing her to order it and also partaking in the desert.

Well, on the way home I was talking out loud about how I probably consumed 2,000 calories for the day already and for dinner I would just have a protein shake and some fiber to keep me through the day. Well, she decided to say "Why don't you keep your calories to yourself", which I promptly replied "because you need to hear them". Well, needless to say, this cause a fight, but I insisted that I've felt this way for months, dropped subtle hints, removed obstacles by letting her do the damn Whole 30 and Advocare shit just to remove excuses. Well now she's pissed, and now I'm at a loss of how to proceed.

I definitely messed up at lunch by eating desert, and I even have been trying to get her to go to couple's therapy for a few months so I could get this type of stuff up in the open and have a moderator, but that idea is shot now.

I definitely screwed up, maybe I screwed up by not doing it sooner? Having a crazy difficult baby (collic, allergies, and just needy overall) allowed her to have her excuses, but now I'm putting it to a stop.

At this point, do I just act like it never happened, continue with the rhetoric, or just lead stronger? I'm just confused how to handle the next 1-4 weeks until things settle down.

Thank you MRP.
