Gentlemen,

I did the monk mode for awhile and read and internalized the side bar. I stepped away from reddit, frankly because I was frustrated with all the success stories and I wasn't getting anywhere and surfing at work was making me less productive. Overall, I felt my wife was a unicorn in the terrible sense of she's off her meds, she's pregnant with all those hormones, she's physically uncomfortable, she's spoiled by her parents and she's an attorney. i.e. she's insufferable to live with.

Dead bedroom is an understatement for me. No sex since January. In fact, imagine getting almost zero affection and what that would do to you. Kisses met with turned cheeks and barely a lip pucker. No touching at all from her (no back rubs, neck rubs, hand holds, hugs). I had to initiate all and it was met with a cold shoulder. I've learned my wife does not forgive my trespasses and often brings them up during altercations. Literally lists them off. I'm a technical man so I get tongue tied when I go up against a lawyer. So I've spent a ton of time getting to know her (Sun Tzu: know thy enemy). I know what you're saying, my first mistake was engaging the hamster. And frankly you're right. Lots of trial and error there.

Anyway, I went to my brother for advice because frankly my marriage is completely in turmoil. He should be a therapist. He left me with this: stand up for yourself; don't argue at her pace, you can't win; start rewriting the narrative (set the record straight) or you'll always look like the villain.

We went to marriage counseling but she no longer wanted to go for a few reasons. She was physically uncomfortable sitting there for an hour being 9 months pregnant, the guy focused way to much on her (where's there is smoke there is fire, gentlemen!)-- i hate that even a 3rd party unbiased observer can call her out but she won't take his advice and she picked him, and she thought the therapist was loony.

Okay, so we had our baby boy in early September. So now we add postpartum and sleep deprivation to a powder keg of a really shitty marriage. I take a lot of her 'punches' on the chin b/c she just had my kid and she's in a lot of pain. But one night where we both had no sleep b/c of taking care of an infant I had enough. She came in on the offensive when it was my turn to sleep. Calling me a 'dick' and an 'asshole' b/c I did jump to take the baby right away when she needed to go pump. I questioned with, "what happened to 3 hours?" As in I had 3 hours before it was my turn to watch the baby. I didn't get into it. I took the kid, watched tv and kept my mind off it. She pumps then snatches him back away. So I'm literally telling myself, 'don't engage.' But no, justice must be served, you don't get to start name calling and get away with that. Anyway, she had mentioned divorce weeks before but I kept deflecting it b/c "we are having a child soon let's focus on that." I decided to engage her hamster and was trying to make her realize her behavior in this situation is unacceptable. But no she goes straight to screaming, "I WANT A DIVORCE!" (my child is 16 days old at this point) so I respond calmly with, "I don't care." So she lambasts me with, "I WANT YOU TO MOVE OUT!" Both statements hurt me to the core. So I calmly say, "you know, you're a selfish, insufferable cunt." And I walk away.

She's called me a bitch, fucker, retarded, dick and asshole.

So the next morning her parents are there bright and early ready to save the day. And her mother is wanting me to move out. I refuse. And I tell myself, fuck it. I've been pulling my punches, walking on egg shells. Time to set the narrative straight. Probably a bad idea but I don't give a shit, so everything literally gets rehashed since January. Where before, I was focused on moving forward and saw no sense in pointing fingers. It's all he said/she said anyway. I pulled out every example of bad behavior about my wife. It was two on one with her mother by her side anyway but I defended it. I just wanted all the bad behavior out in the open about her princess. They accused me of being passive aggressive and having an undercurrent of anger all the time. Well, if I share my feelings I get shut down by the lawyer over there, if I bottle them up then I'm asked what's wrong and if I say 'nothing' then I'm met with the spanish inquisition until I blow my top. Damned if I do, damned if I don't.

Obviously I didn't move out.

4 days later we had our one year wedding anniversary. I made a deal with her, let's focus on the baby, coparenting under the same room for the next 3 months. Don't worry about 'us', we'll take that one day at time. She was in tears b/c I had a very thoughtful anniversary gift for her that was set in motion before C-day. I gave it to her anyway even though she didn't deserve it.

She was silent. I took it as okay.

So I decide to see a therapist. Maybe I am passive aggressive. I focus on the baby and everything that can support the baby, ie. the mother so she can provide breast milk. I make it completely stress free. Who cares about my needs.

So 5 weeks go by, no arguing. She tries to engage and I just either be agreeable or don't engage. Last Friday, I just shut down b/c I"m simply tired. I didn't feel like being 'on' that night by continuously blowing sunshine up her ass. We go for a walk don't talk about much. I just enjoy a silent walk and the weather. And out of no where she asks, "What do you think about a separation? You getting an apartment." My kid is like 6 weeks old. I answer with I can't afford it, etc. Then I make the mistake of engaging her hamster. "Why? I've changed, I see a therapist for my problems, blah blah. What have I done in the last month where you now all of sudden want me to move out?"

She replies, "you called me a cunt." then lists off all my trespasses going back to the dawn of time.

Here's what I learned about my wife: extremely insecure, holds grudges forever, will never apologize, driving need to win arguments, sees things only in black and white and is completely unforgiving. (or is that all women? hahaha)

I get all emotional because she is taking away my time with my baby. Divorce talk happens but I notice she's not committal with it, she just wants a separation. I say separation leads to divorce. What's the point of a separation? Finally, I say, "absolutely not, my name is on the mortgage. you want me out, then file for divorce." And we get into it, she states she doesn't love me anymore, who I am now. I knew that was coming... if it comes to it, her next step will be, "i've never loved you." Anyway, at this point, I give zero fucks. I ask for the baby b/c I don't know how much longer I'll be able to have him full time. I go to the other room.

She comes in 5 min later, her tone is oddly calm. She says, why don't you hang out in the living room. I tell her I don't want to be around her. She says, well I just don't know what you're going to do with the baby, if you're gonna hurt the baby since you're so upset.

STOP. DON'T YOU EVER SAY THAT TO ME AGAIN! DON'T YOU EVER ACCUSE ME OF THAT!

Of course I never got an apology but then my wife was extremely nice to me over the weekend and talkative. First time in 9 months. I took night's watch on the baby so wife got to sleep for once. I was still upset with her but I didn't want to rock the boat. I fell for her trickery. And just like fucking Ground Hog's Day, Monday morning, she's back to being insufferable. Hello Mr Hyde. I want to get a t-shirt made, "Your disdain for me is palpable."

Anyway, I'm divorcing her, probably first of the year after I get all my ducks in a row. I love her but the problem lies solely with her. She needs professional mental help. I just worry that the courts will side with her on custody and I have to undo all the damage she does raising my kid.

I remember coming here to MRP way back when and the first bit of advice was there's hope for you... maybe not with your current wife. I didn't believe it at first but you're absolutely correct, sir.

Sorry about the book of victim puke but I felt there should be an update.

TL;DR: Don't get married.

EDIT: As of 23 Oct 2015:

So you know how I said her next level of dig on me was to say, 'I have never loved you.' She did one better, she tried to hurt me with, 'We are never having sex again.'

It was comical. As opposed to all the wonderful sex we're having now. She couldn't provoke me so she calls me 'asshole.' According to Bill Burr, I won.
