Do women have to feel sexy/attractive/desired in order to feel powerful?

I don’t need to feel desired to feel powerful but I’ll admit that I do feel sexier when I feel powerful.

Not at all. Sexual power is a lame source of power.

It’s the cheapest and easiest.

Just sleep with a tech mogul. You can say, “Do this, do that.” And he does it. “Go look at that 10 million dollar house (for sale). And he does it.

There, you have power. You have his power for as long as you keep his attention.

But maybe you don’t want his attention. You don’t love him. And then it actually feels degrading because it’s a reminder of how little power you actually have.

Ick ick. I need a shower.

It’s degrading to think that it’s your looks and your vagina that can get you furthest in life. It means you’re reduced to an object, a trophy, not a capable person in your own right.

The sad thing is the tech mogul said, “You’re a powerful person in your own right. It’s not about money.” Maybe he saw something in me that wasn’t about beauty or sexiness either.

No, I’ve worked in several very female-dominated offices, and I often feel powerful at work, and being sexy or attractive isn’t even on my mind. I also feel powerful after completing physical challenges, and it’s a pretty even 50/50 split if I also feel sexy after. I will, however say that it’s more likely to be the other way around for me - I feel sexy and attractive when I feel powerful.

It's a form of power but there's a great number of ways of feeling powerful it has nothing to do with... and some of the most powerful women I've known have been chunky looking post menopausal women who dress in trouser suits and are well aware of how powerful they are.

"Feeling" powerful is basically not the issue.

In order to actually achieve a position of power, women need to be attractive. The appearance standards for female vs male CEOs/politicians/leaders of any kind are much higher for women.

It's not that women can't "feel" powerful unless they are sexy, its that the rest of us won't actually let them BE powerful unless they are sexy.

Nah. I don't feel sexy when I'm working with kitchen knives on a big project, or shooting guns at a range, but I certainly feel powerful.

A lot of college students use reddit (or women who were sheltered and haven't outgrown their idealization phase), so they'll say no

But being attractive is a big source of women's power, I would say it is a double edged sword though as if you are both attractive and have used your attractiveness to lead a more comfortable life (the majority of women have used their femininity and sexuality to purchase a comfortable life) there will be a tradeoff in personal growth and competency, and if you are in a non-sexual situation that demands high levels of competency you may find yourself being ignored and passed over because relative to men (and perhaps ugly women) you simply are not equipped to be depended on

Hm, Stacies definitely have a lot more power solely because of their looks and often they realize it. But being sexy/attractive/desired and powerful is not the same as feeling it. There is a significant overlap, though.

Forgot to say, there are other sources of power, nevertheless, so, the answer is "no"

Sexy women have more power over men and women then powerful yet ugly or average women do. Men will always and forever give more attention and devotion to a sexy woman than a powerful woman.

This doesn’t mean a woman is a sex object. It just means men are drawn to feminine qualities, and not masculine ones in women.

Not anymore women have become CEO and get positions of power, you dont think Angela Merkel feels powering being in the position of power of one of the stronger countries in Europe. Tbh the truth is some women just realise it is easier being sexy to gain power, then it is going the standard route like these women.
