I try to be as up front as possible in any sexual relationship. I check in often. "I'm not sure where this is going or what I want out of this, but I enjoy spending time with you", "I'm not in the market for a boyfriend right now, but I would like to continue seeing you", "I really like you and would like to take this a step further", etc. I encourage the same level of transparency in my partners.

Still, some men have told me that they felt used after they caught feelings that weren't reciprocated. My honesty and intention doesn't help them feel better.

Depends on my current circumstances. I don't enjoy hookups, but there have been many times in which I have preferred casual/FWB arrangements over a relationship for a variety of reasons.

If I look back at all my relationships pre-TRP except one ONS and one FWB, which ironically looking back were the happiest "relationship" I had, almost all the sexual relationships I had I was by older women for sex, or by my ex for sexual validation, and I offered relationships because I thought it was "the right thing to do". These women only wanted sex from me 24*7 and I was so guilty and confused by it. They were going through "a transformative time in their lives" which really meant being sexually promiscuous, and I was in the line of Fire for these older women. For my ex who was a virgin it was sexual validation and the joys of good dick essentially. She wanted all of me, all the time. She convinced herself she was in love with me, and so did I, and we were stupid young teenagers in love. She straight up raped me wherever she got the chance often, and then would cry about it and rape me more. She physically liked being with me and my dick in her more than anything in the world. I'm happy I opened that world to her.

Ugh, this kid 16 years younger than me has caught the feels. He'a sweet and fun a couple of nights a month, but not aligned with most attributes I require of a relationship partner. In my perfect world I would have casual sex with my friends with benefits and then go home to my relationship, but knowing that my woman wouldn't be ok with this currently, I am monogamous and faithful. I prefer to have a relationship, as that's the bedrock of family and I operate better when I have a partner, but when I was 14-23 I would've preferred casual sex because dealing emotionally with women before swallowing the RP was just too exhausting.

I am not religious but I am extremely crypto-christian and conflicted about many things. I am married and never have experienced casual sex or FWB so nothing to compare with and not real opportunity to experiment with it short of exploding my wonderful family. Back when I was young it didn't seem to be a necessity to fuck first and date later which seems to be the norm now. I was not comfortable with sex outside a serious relationship and never put in any effort to adapt to that mode of dating. The girls I dated didn't seem to mind taking it slow and having fun together other ways. But that was decades ago and times seem to have changed.

One can only be “used for sex” if one is engaging in sex for some reason other than the enjoyment of sexual intimacy with their sexual partner, if one is attempting to exchange sexual intimacy for something else they desire which will provide them utility.

In this sense one is using one’s own sexual intimacy as currency. One is literally prostituting oneself.

To the extent that the intended exchange was not made clear to the other party and contractually agreed upon by the other party, it cannot be accurately said that the other party did any using - only that the party attempting to prostitute him or herself failed in his or her attempt to use his/herself sexually in exchange for something else he/she desired.
