If eccentricity makes you money or the eccentric is physically attractive, then it's a good thing in the dating market.

Otherwise, definitely not.

It makes you have greater appeal to a smaller market. Whatever, it's a value judgement. Plus, I don't think someone can pretend to be eccentric just to pick up ladies, at least not for much longer than the night.

Eccentricity will usually put off more women than it attracts. However, that's not a bad thing as getting noticed is often dating's largest hurdle. If a normal you is invisible to women eccentricity is likely a good thing. If an eccentric you puts off 90% but attracts 10% you're ahead.

I've pretty much given up on trying to act normal. Being a bit weird doesn't seem to have effected things one way or the other. The big plus is that it is a lot easier not trying to be something you're not.

Depends entirely on the type and severity of eccentricity. Some interesting quirks that don't come across as defects can be super hot. Most people who call themselves "eccentric" though are just weird.

Depends on what kind of "eccentricity" you're talking about.

Sure, it makes things different, which is more interesting and has a tendency to be less boring than being similar to everyone else, but I think it's only positive until a certain point.

The flip side is to ask what advantages are there to being normal, and just how normal can you be before it is a disadvantage.

Large scale personality tests that have multiple scales, each with a normal range and many with a centre point or average. People typically have scores that are off centre with perhaps one or more outside of the normal range. This is what is called having a personality.

If you are so typical or average in your thinking, behavior and opinions that your responses to a questionnaire mimic national survey results, that is pretty damn boring.

"Quirky" might be a better word than eccentric. The latter has too many negative connotations.

Quirks as to style can make one more appealing to particular people. The clothes, grooming and music, as well as the movies, books and food that you prefer can make you more or less attractive to others depending on their preferences.

A quirky job, educational background or hobby can function as a talking point for a person who is otherwise normal in terms of their psychosocial makeup.

The line between quirky and eccentric is when it becomes pervasive and it will always be negative but can be offset by other abilities or accomplishments. People will put up with difficult, eccentric or outright weird individuals who are gifted, particularly in the arts: music, film and even writing and visual arts. In STEM, not so much. In business, women certainly like the money but the real attraction is in the personality traits that lead to success.

OTOH is the eccentric with no socially or financially redeeming qualities.

It depends; if you're good-looking, you'll be seen as a rebel who doesn't follow the crowd, lives by his own rules, and all that shit. Some women are into that. If you're not good-looking, you'll just be seen as an anti-social misfit weirdo. No women are into that.

People are uncomfortable with the strange and unknown. Part of building attraction is also building comfort. Extreme eccentricity is probably a net negative.
