Sexual advances in the workplace are inappropriate at best, especially when there's an imbalance of power. Whether or not it qualifies as harassment depends on context, history, circumstances, and the individual involved.

When it happens in a work place? yes. Why is it so hard for men to not think with their dicks in a professional setting?

We don't take a shit in the office just because we felt the urge, we hold it and take ourselves to the appropriate location. (the bathroom). WHHYY can't men exercise the most basic biological control when it comes to their dicks and professional settings?

Don't want to get slapped with a sexual harassment accusation? keep your hands to yourself and your mind on your work. Toddlers have figured it out, its not that hard.

Idk? I’ve been hit on by guys all my life. It can be annoying, but not being hit on would be worse. As long as they don’t touch me I figure they’re within their rights to try their luck. The ones that have grabbed or groped me and whatnot I wish I’d done something about it like 👊🏻 Also, I think harassment is a pattern of behavior. A guy at work hits on me I say no then he leaves me alone? Not harassment.

Really? Your example is someone acting inappropriately during a business discussion. If I'm at a bar, that's one thing. If I'm trying to discuss a design about some software and someone said this to me, I'd be livid.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that this proposition took place in a BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT. That's what makes it sexual harassment. Yes, generally any and all propositions for sex in a work environment fall under the sexual harassment umbrella. "Sexual harassment" is not a thing that exists outside of a work context.

I'm starting to think there's a witch-hunt going on and it's being stirred up by the media. Let's dig up every off-colored exchange made by a male within the past 40 years and allege "harassment."

There are more than enough legitimate crimes that need resolution but I think a lot of the media, and of course, NPR, are intentionally trying to find "boogeymen" for attention-grabbing headlines.

I used to have a lot more respect for NPR but anymore I can't listen for more than 10 minutes without their coverage turning into a gender or race war.

He tried to get a 17 year old intern on the set of a movie to go back to his hotel. That is sexual harassment. If he had tried to get a 17 year old who was out on the street to go on a date with him it would just be creepy. She was at work.

Gatsiounis might have been a good deal younger than Hoffman when he allegedly propositioned her. But so what? It's not like she's some babe in the woods, all naïve and innocent. She's a goddamn screenwriter working in television with some of the hardest asses and most driven, high octane people in the world. She was (and is) a successful writer, taking a meeting about having one of her published works adapted into film.

This wasn't some famous or up and comer guy assaulting a child or trying to get a $10 crack ho. This was a sophisticated, famous actor dealing with a sophisticated, savvy, no-bullshit woman with some accomplishments under her belt who was well accustomed to dealing with powerful, famous and wealthy men.

It's now getting to the point where we are going to hear about every male celebrity's awkward request for a date, ever.

We now will be subjected to complaints from women about every actor, director, producer or writer who ever asked a woman out and was told "no", or tried to get a first date kiss, that happened 20-odd years ago.

This is really getting ridiculous.

But I'm not seeing anything there that was sexual harassment. He made a sexual advance, in a work environment. But that is not automatically sexual harassment, and nothing I can see here indicates the kind of other things that would have to have been going on to make it sexual harassment.

Lets get one thing clear here.... Making a sexual advance on someone in the workplace is not ipso facto sexual harassment. Not unless you are abusing a position of power, or offering some form of quid pro quo, or negatively impacting her career if she refuses, or otherwise relating her work performance and/or reward to the sexual advance.

IIRC, the sexual harassment law was originally setup to be clear that such normal conduct is not sexual harassment.

It indicates how far the feminists have shifted it now that "Any sexual advance in the workplace, if it wasn't desired, is now sexual harassment"

Unless there are other facts we are not made aware of in the snippet above, I can't see how anyone can say this is sexual harassment as the law defines it.... Only how woman in their heads have since chosen to warp it into what they want it to be, because they'd like to use the sledgehammer of the law and serious custodial sentences to prevent themselves ever being made uncomfortable or slightly embarrassed.

[Hostile Environment Clause - TGP] This occurs when an employee is subjected to comments of a sexual nature, unwelcome physical contact, or offensive sexual materials as a regular part of the work environment. For the most part, a single isolated incident will not be enough to prove hostile environment harassment unless it involves extremely outrageous and egregious conduct. The courts will try to decide whether the conduct is both "serious" and "frequent." Supervisors, managers, co-workers and even customers can be responsible for creating a hostile environment.[119]

So if it isn't under the 2 quid pro quo clauses (i.e. you were making something about the job dependent on the sex) then propositioning a female on a single occasion is not sexual harassment.
